Pros
- Over 20 years of experience
- Can perform complicated procedures
- Offers several diagnostic tests
- Open to emergency services
Cons
- Closed on weekends
We consider having over 20 years of experience a feat. Dr Ruth Kam of Ruth Kam Heart & Arrhythmia Clinic is regarded as a top cardiologist in Singapore for this reason – and then some.
That being said, a fair number of the cardiologists on our list have been in the field as long as Dr Kam. So, what exactly sets Dr Kam apart from the others?
The first thing that we find noteworthy is that Dr Kam’s clinic offers such a wide variety of diagnostic tests.
With these many tests, patients are sure that their condition will be correctly diagnosed. The convenience of taking the necessary tests in one clinic is such a relief for many patients.
In addition to the general cardiac health screening, for instance, Ruth Kam Heart & Arrhythmia Clinic runs 14 tests. These include the Holter test and electrophysiological study.
Dr Kam is also considered an expert when it comes to arrhythmias and cardiac electrophysiology. Of course, the clinic performs the usual tests too, like stress echocardiogram and exercise treadmill test.
A number of patients recommended Dr Kam’s clinic for anyone feeling symptoms that can be related to a heart condition. They can get accurate diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment.
Patients can think of her clinic as a one-stop shop. That is because Dr Kam has gained a reputation for being able to perform several cardiological procedures.
What we are not so sold about is the fact that the clinic is closed during weekends. It is open for emergency services though.

Pros
- In-depth knowledge
- Friendly demeanour
- Can perform surgeries
- Fluent in several languages
Cons
- Does not accept operations on Sundays
Understandably, one of the traits patients look for in their cardiologist is extensive knowledge of cardiology. Dr. Daniel Yeo of Apex Heart Clinic in Singapore has this in spades.
To put it simply, the records of his education, professional memberships and professional experience are all ridiculously long and impressive. It made the decision to add him to this list a relatively easy one.
Dr Yeo is also praised for his meticulous heart evaluation. Many patients tell us he lives up to the vision of ‘to understand the patient’s concerns and to care for the patient as a unique individual.’
Not all hearts are equal, after all, and this extends to heart conditions. That’s why Dr Yeo’s approach can be useful.
Moreover, most patients prefer doctors with good bedside manner. So, it does not surprise us when a number of patients in our survey highlighted this very thing.
Another plus in our book is Dr Yeo’s proficiency in several languages. He can converse with patients through English, Hokkien, Mandarin, Teochew and Malay (Bahasa Melayu).
Oh, and expats and foreigners need not be intimidated. The staff of the clinic are also fluent in English, Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese, Mandarin and Tagalog.
Many patients mentioned how easy it was to set an appointment with the doctor, by the way. They commend the efficiency of the staff, too.
We also appreciate that the clinic accepts company insurance. It partners with Aviva, Cigna and Make Health Connect to name a few.
One drawback is that Dr Yeo’s practice does not operate on Sundays. This is unfortunate mostly because, well, heart failures do not just happen on weekdays.
We still believe that when the clinic is open, Dr Yeo and his team offer excellent service to anyone coming through the door.

Pros
- Almost 40 years of experience
- Can diagnose many types of heart-related conditions
- Detail-oriented
Cons
- Expensive services
- Closed on Sundays
Dr Teo Wee Siong was a shoo-in for our list. He is an integral part of the well-known The Heart Specialist Clinic.
The clinic has had an impressive history since its inception in 2000. It offers services from four cardiologists, and all of them bring something to the table.
Nevertheless, we chose Dr Teo for his experience and expertise. When it comes to experience, he has the most among the clinic’s team of heart experts.
With nearly forty years of experience, that Dr Teo has seen thousands of patients is not an exaggeration. This naturally led to his competency in diagnosing heart conditions.
He is noted for being perceptive during consultations. That he is detail-oriented is another trait commended by patients.
Electrophysiology is Dr Teo’s specialisation, by the way. Patients of the clinic suffering from abnormal heartbeats are directed to him.
In any case, saying that The Heart Specialist Clinic is one of the recommended heart clinics in Singapore because of Dr Teo is definitely not a misrepresentation.
That said, the clinic itself actually adds to the reasons to see Dr Teo for anything cardiology-related. It offers a good variety of services, from screening to surgeries.
Those struggling with life-threatening conditions can rest assured that they are getting outstanding care, thanks to the latest technologies on hand and the expertise of cardiologists.
Patients just have to be willing to pay the price. As not everyone can afford the relatively pricy services, the good doctor is not that accessible in our eyes.

Pros
- Over 20 years of experience
- Trained in interventional procedures
- Proficient in many languages
Cons
- Patients are no longer accepted by 4pm

A top-rated cardiologist in Singapore comes with remarkable credentials. And those of Dr. Soon Chao Yang of The Heart Doctors Clinic undoubtedly impressed us.
First, Dr Yang completed his training in interventional cardiology at Methodist DeBakey Heart Centre, a world-renowned institution when it comes to cardiology. That already sets him apart from a quite a few of his peers.
Second, he can practise in Singapore and the United States. As such, he keeps updated with the latest medical developments.
Third, Dr Yang is fluent in English, Cantonese, Hokkien and Bahasa Melayu. This skill of his enables him to quickly put patients at ease – which is certainly indicated by how many recommended him to us.
Fourth, he has more than two decades of experience. Given all these, we are not surprised that Dr Yang has patients lining up to consult with him.
We like that apart from The Heart Doctors Clinic, Dr Yang is accredited with a number of hospitals in Singapore. This speaks well for his credibility and accessibility.
Those who find going to Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Parkway East Hospital easier can still see Dr Yang for their heart-related concerns.
However, patients are no longer accepted by 4 pm. If you are really keen on seeing Dr Yang, you may have to take a leave from work to fit into his busy schedule.

Pros
- Trailblazer for certain cardiology treatments
- More than 20 years of experience
- Attentive
- Known for holistic care
Cons
- Difficulties in booking
- Closed on Sundays
Heart Specialist International’s very own cardiologist, Dr Paul Ong deserves to be included in this list. He is a top-rated cardiologist not just in Singapore but also arguably in Asia.
When it comes to knowledge of cardiology, he goes the extra mile in that he explores new areas. Case in point is his endeavour to carry out the trans-radial technique in coronary angioplasty.
Dr Ong was one of the first to do so. One can say that he is revolutionary in his ways of treating heart conditions.
Another accomplishment worth mentioning is he did the first robot-assisted angioplasty in Asia. Honestly, this already tells you that we can go on and on about his credentials.
But it all boils down to this: Dr Ong is clearly truly passionate about cardiology. And this passion is evident to his patients.
From consultations, surgeries, post-surgery care and follow-up, Dr Ong gives patients his full attention. Many of his patients applaud him for this more than his expertise.
His attentiveness makes what would have been a traumatic experience bearable, even wonderful to some. At least, this is what they told us in our surveys and interviews.
With how great Dr Ong is, patients of his recommend him, and the cycle continues. Basically, it leads to him being perpetually in demand.
He is not as accessible as we would like. His schedule is almost always packed.
If dealing with an emergency situation, we advise you to check the other cardiologists in the list because you may have a hard time seeing Dr Ong immediately.

Pros
- Wide range of health services
- Experienced and knowledgeable cardiologist
- Variety of special interests
- Variety of training experience
Cons
- Closed on Sundays
Sunrise Heart & Internal Medicine Clinic is one that hopes to provide affordable and accessible specialist cardiovascular medical care in Singapore.
They have a wide range of health services so we think this clinic woud be a great place to go for tests, routine checkups, and the like.
Their doctor is Dr. Woo Jia Wei, MBBS, MRCP, FAMS (Cardiology), an Internist and Cardiologist who is also a Visiting Consultant Cardiologist to National University Heart Centre Singapore as well as a Diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography (America).
His special interests are advanced multimodality cardiac imaging for accurate and in-depth cardiac diagnoses.
He’s knowledgeable about advanced 3D cardiac imaging techniques such as CT, MRI and echocardiography to increase success when it comes to complicated heart procedures and surgeries.
We’re amazed at how much lives he’s saved in the operating theatre, but even more amazed that he goes outside the operating theatre and is also interested in preventive and community cardiology.
We’re impressed with his experience and training as well. He received formal cardiac CT training at John Hopkins Hospital in America and Harefield Hospital in the United Kingdom.
To add, he was conferred a Diplomate in Cardiac CT from the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography of the US.
With his breadth of knowledge and experience, we think he would be an excellent doctor to consult for cardiac issues.
