We cannot deny our tendency to gravitate towards award-winning service providers. This is why we dare not make this list without Dr Gan Eng Cern.
His contributions to the medical field have been recognized for many years. One of his earliest awards is the Best Doctor Award from Singhealth in 2007.
Most recently, he got the 2020 Reader’s Choice Gold Award for Best ENT Specialist. Consistent with such an award, he continues to receive high ratings in online reviews.
Dr Gan’s clinic provides a wide range of ENT services. Actually, Dr Gan is more known for his work on nose and sinus.
Nevertheless, we are happy that treatment for impacted ear wax is included in the services offered in his clinic.
Impacted ear wax cannot be remedied at home. For this condition, we would want to entrust our ears in the hands of a skilled professional.
In fact, Dr Gan penned the online article ‘The Essential Guide To Ear Wax Removal In Singapore’. Given his expertise in the procedure, many patients already trusted him with this.
We like that his clinic is easy to find too. His clinic is in Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre.
The location inside one of the biggest hospitals in Singapore presents another advantage. That is, patients can be sure that Dr Gan has access to a complete set of equipment.
Dr Gan uses modern equipment (e.g. microscope guidance) to accurately diagnose the condition of patients’ ears. The doctor then patiently explains the condition and procedure.
A number of Dr Gan’s patients shared how they felt reassured during consultations. This caring attitude of the doctor extends to his child patients, too.
Most importantly, we are pleased that the clinic accepts Medisave accreditations as payment option. Patients can receive quality care without breaking the bank, so what’s not to like?
Pros
- Full range of ENT services, including children’s
- Comprehensive diagnostic of ear conditions
- Use of modern equipment
- Accredited by several insurance providers
- Open on Sundays
Cons
- Doctor’s specialisation is actually nose and sinus

Dr Dennis Chua has a large following. After checking out his credentials, we are not surprised that patients are lining up in his clinic.
For one, he has more than 15 years of experience as an ENT doctor. He is well versed with any medical issues concerning ear, nose, throat, sinus and thyroid.
He is also a board-certified plastic surgeon. He can perform rhinoplasty and other facial plastic surgeries.
Among all his patients we talked to, only a minority saw him for ear wax removal or cleaning. Given his accreditation, we can understand if some think he is overqualified for such a task.
Nonetheless, we can all agree that we do not want just anyone touching our ears. More so when we are experiencing severe pain.
Apparently, it is never that early to have ear wax removal. And many parents who had Dr Chua clean the ears of their children were in awe of how he handled them.
As expected, these kids were afraid of the idea of someone touching and doing something to their ears. Dr Chua and his staff deserve applause for putting children at ease.
What we like about Dr Chua is that he does not simply address the problem, say removing impacted ear wax. He also calmly guides patients regarding the dos and don’ts.
He makes sure that patients know what the procedure entails. He also makes himself available to his patients through WhatsApp.
We came across some price transparency issues when we went through online reviews. Being upfront with the prices can go a long way in further cementing the reputation of the clinic.
Pros
- Highly skilled and likeable ENT doctor
- Accepts children as patients
- ENT doctor can be reached in case of emergency
Cons
- Closed on Sundays
- Pricing transparency issues

DTAP stands for Dr Tan and Partners. DTAP Clinics are known for providing overall medical care for Singaporeans, foreigners and expatriates living on the island.
At present, there are a total of 12 DTAP Clinics in Singapore and Malaysia. What we like is that the clinics located in Singapore have consistent good online ratings.
Admittedly, the clinics are more focused on men’s health, women’s health, family medicine, skin and allergy conditions and nutritional screening. We still think that it deserves a spot on our list.
The main reason is that the DTAP Clinic accepts nearly all individuals looking to have ear wax removed. We find that other ear wax removal places are selective with their patients.
Those experiencing symptoms of ear wax build-up are of course welcomed. As ear irrigation is not advisable for patients with ear infections, they are recommended to undergo an aural toilet.
Speaking of ear infections, the clinic also deals with them. So, patients need not go someplace else to have their ears taken care of.
In addition, the clinic entertains those whose ear canal has anatomical variation. Patients who wear hearing aids and even children are accepted as well.
What we are not fond of is that ear wax removal with painless microsuction is offered exclusively in the Robertson branch. Walk-ins are not accepted.
Moreover, the appointments are subject to the doctor’s availability. Although they accept all kinds of patients, actually seeing them can be a problem with the limited resources.
Furthermore, the cost is a bit pricier than it would be at others. This is expected though given that the clinic uses microsuction.
Pros
- Accepts all kinds of patients/cases
- Consistent good online ratings
Cons
- By appointment only
- Slightly pricier procedure

Zenith Medical Clinic Pte. Ltd. has only been operational since 2014. It is relatively young compared with other clinics.
Nevertheless, it caught our attention primarily because of the vision of founder Dr Paul Ang. Specifically, his vision to deliver safe, excellent and affordable medical care is close to reality.
Dr Ang’s interests are ENT, paediatrics and mental health. We think the combination of these three bodes well for his patients.
His expertise in ENT serves him well when meeting patients in need of ear wax removal. We like that he does not immediately get the wax off or clean the ears.
As the clinic offers two main procedures for ear wax removal or ear cleaning, patients undergo a comprehensive assessment. This is to ensure that the correct procedure is delivered.
Ear syringing after all is not applicable to those with ear infections or who had ear surgery recently. Dr Ang also refuses patients without ear wax issues.
We heard from patients how quick ear syringing was. Some expressed gratitude for a fast solution to the problem that bothered them for weeks.
The cost is relatively cheaper for ear syringing. It depends on how long it will take for the ear wax to be removed though.
If the procedure is less than 10 minutes, patients only have to shell out $25 for one ear and $40 for both ears.
Another boon is that the clinic is open on Sundays. We also love that the clinic accepts walk-ins. Admittedly though, the wait time can be long.
Pros
- Offers ear syringing and microsuction
- Removes foreign objects
- Attends to children
- Affordable pricing
- Open on Sundays
Cons
- Some booking problems
- Long waiting times

The Advanced ENT Centre is one of the many ENT centres in Singapore. Some may argue that it is like any other, but we beg to differ.
The Advanced ENT Centre is already reputed for delivering excellent care to patients, adults and children alike. The centre has not one but two ENT specialists.
With hearing as one of our five senses, we would like our doctors to take extra care when examining our ears. And Dr David Lau and Dr Rebecca Heywood meet expectations.
Their combined expertise ensures that patients receive competent aid for their ear-related problems. Most of the online reviews we read mention how knowledgeable the doctors are.
Admittedly though, Dr Lau’s expertise is more on nasal and sinus disorders. He is actually recognised for his contributions to this very field.
Still, when it comes to ear wax removal or ear cleaning, both doctors are more than equipped with the knowledge to carry out the procedure safely and accurately.
We also met patients who shared how friendly and caring the doctors were during consultations and actual procedures.
Fluency in three languages, namely, English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia, is another advantage. The centre is somewhat a favourite among foreigners.
The problem is that without insurance, the price can be steep. This kind of contradicts their claim of being cost effective.
Pros
- Two board-certified ENT specialists
- Available for paediatric cases
- Fluent in three languages
Cons
- Head doctor specialises in nasal and sinus disorders
- A bit expensive for those without insurance
- Closed on Sundays
