The 5 Best Haematologists in Singapore

Expertise

Almost all haematologists have a subspecialty or an area of practice that they’re experts at. For this reason, we listed several haematologists that specialize in various subspecialties to cater to your specific needs.

Years of Training

When choosing a medical practitioner, it’s important to consider their years of training. This is why we picked haematologists who have at least two years of specialty training and three years of core medical training.

Credentials

Board certification is one of the most vital factors when choosing the right haematologists.
Therefore, we narrowed down haematologists who are accredited by the Specialists Accreditation Board (SAB) and are registered under their specialty by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).

Communication

Consulting with a haematologist can be nerve-racking. Thus, we assessed the ones we believe are easy to talk with and consider your treatment preferences.

If you’re looking for a specialist for blood disorders, Dr. Daryl Tan is worth your consideration for many reasons.

For starters, Dr. Tan’s area of expertise covers not just one but three subspecialties which are lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

However, with his training, Dr. Tan also offers services concerning haemato-oncology, clotting disorders, bleeding disorders, and of course, general haematology.

From his services alone, we think it’s safe to say that his clinic is a one-stop establishment to get treatment for blood-related diseases.

And if you’re worried about his qualifications, Dr. Tan is an awardee of the Singapore Government Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship for his postdoctoral pursuits in the field of lymphoma at Stanford University.

As for booking a consultation with him, you should contact his clinic through its hotline to ensure an immediate response. You can opt to send a message via email, but we found that it takes a while for his clinic to acknowledge it.

We’d also like you to take note that Dr. Tan’s clinic opens on weekdays and is only open for a limited time on Saturdays. And with the influx of clients he gets, your safest option is to book way ahead of time to secure a consultation slot.

Known to exhibit compassionate and caring treatment for patients with blood disorders, Centre for Clinical Haematology (CFCH) is truly helpful for Singaporeans in need of blood-related treatments and consultations.

Not only that, their two haematologists, Dr. Lim Zi Yi and Dr. Ng Chin Hin, have a combined medical experience of 12 years in the field.

And since both doctors are senior consultant haematologists, they offer a wide range of services such as chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, blood transfusion, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy, among many others.

Naturally, said services are used to treat various conditions, and CFCH is capable of applying treatment to common blood cancers like chronic leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, to name a few.

In addition, CFCH also tends to disorders like iron deficiency anemia, iron deficiency in women, deep vein thrombosis, and other benign blood conditions.

Now, when it comes to booking a consultation, we recommend that you contact them through their WhatsApp number since they’re quick to respond there than on their email.

However, we attempted to call them a few times before they finally answered back, which is kind of a bummer.

Pros

  • Dr. Lim has more than 15 years of experience in the field of haematology
  • Offers a wide array of services and treatments
  • Offers treatments to various haematological malignancies and other bleeding issues

Cons

  • No teleconsultation option
  • Closed on Sundays and is only open for a short period on Saturdays
  • Consultation may last over one and a half hours

Blood Specialist Clinic offers a broad range of clinical services for various haematological issues. And their haematological consultant, Dr. Lim Lay Cheng, is a specialist that provides treatments for blood-related problems.

Although Dr. Lim is the lone haematologist at Blood Specialist Clinic, you can fully trust her to manage your haematological issue since she has been specializing in this particular field for more than 15 years.

Plus, as an expert in investigating patients with abnormal blood results, Dr. Lim is more than capable of giving you the right treatment.

Her specific areas of expertise cover haematological malignancies such as myeloma, lymphoma, and myeloproliferative disorders. On top of that, she’s also equipped to deal with blood clotting, thrombosis, and other bleeding issues.

Now, for first-timers, this clinic requires you to prepare your medical documents, which you will furnish during consultation. You are also required to go to the clinic 15 minutes before your actual appointment.

This automatically rules out the option of having a teleconsultation. So if you were hoping to get a virtual check-up, cross this clinic out of your list.

We also recommend that you set aside at least half a day if you wish to set an appointment with Dr. Lim because the consultation will likely take more than one and a half hours.

And since they’re closed on Sundays and are only open until lunchtime on Saturdays, you will have to schedule a consultation on a weekday. For those with regular day jobs, this means sacrificing a work day.

Pros

  • Provides high-quality health care
  • Houses various doctors that practice different medical specialties
  • Offers a wide array of services and treatments
  • Caters to several blood conditions (blood cancer and other blood disorders)

Cons

  • No walk-ins allowed
  • Haematology clinic is closed on weekends
  • Consultation time is limited

Novena Medical Center is not just conveniently placed in Singapore’s medical hub but is also known to provide high-quality health care to Singaporeans.

Since this center houses doctors who practice different disciplines, it’s guaranteed that any medical condition, including haematology-related ones, can be addressed.

That said, the doctor for haematology at Novena Medical Center is Dr. Gerrard Teoh who also specializes in general medicine and internal medicine for adults.

For haematology in particular, Dr. Teoh is equipped to manage and assess blood disorders like anemia, thalassemia, bleeding deep vein thrombosis, and blood cancers like leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.

So if you’re experiencing one of the said medical conditions or simply want to consult with a certified haemotologist, you can easily find Dr. Teoh at Novena Medical Center.

Do note, however, that directly booking a consultation on the Novena Medical Center’s website isn’t the most viable option if you want to secure a slot with any of their doctors.

You would have to manually input the specific details at the website’s Look For portion, where you’ll find all the necessary information like the doctors’ WhatsApp numbers and the Google forms for appointment booking.

It’s also worth remembering that Dr. Teoh’s clinic at Novena Medical Center doesn’t accommodate walk-ins. Plus, consultations strictly start at 9 am and end at 4 pm on weekdays.

Unfortunately, the clinic is closed on weekends, which means you have limited time slots to choose from.

Pros

  • Expert at administering treatment and care for cancer patients
  • Services and treatment cover both adults and children
  • Online appointment form is easy to fill out

Cons

  • Appointment confirmation could take longer than 2 days
  • Not responsive on their hotline

Many seek the services offered at Parkway Cancer Centre, especially since it’s known to provide comprehensive and premier cancer care to patients from all over the globe.

Of course, as its name suggests, the centre is the best at administering care for cancer patients, but its services also cover several areas, including haematology.

So other than cancer screening, medical oncology, and surgical oncology, the centre also caters to non-malignant haematology, haematology oncology, and pediatric haematology and oncology.

This centre has treatments for blood cancers and non-malignant blood disorders alike. And we like that these treatments are not just available to adults but also to children with blood affliction.

Furthermore, booking an appointment at Parkway Cancer Centre should be relatively easy since there’s a Make an Appointment portion on their website. All you have to do is fill out a two-step online form.

However, once you’ve accomplished the form, you have no choice but to wait for two working days before they acknowledge your appointment.

While they mostly notify you within that provided time frame, many have noted that the confirmation for appointment slots could take longer than two days.

They also aren’t as responsive on the provided hotline, which means following up on the status of your appointment using it is futile.
