I can still remember when 1939 Singapore was officially launched: my friends and I were thrilled because we had a new hangout spot. After all, this establishment featured several levels of bars and restaurants! Oh, and there are also DJ lineups every month, so even more fun!

And then, just a week ago, we heard the news that absolutely devastated all of us: 1939 Singapore is set to close for good on May 31, 2025. My friends and I have made so many memories here. I can’t imagine having to say goodbye to this place at all.

We can still have one last hurrah (or several last hurrahs) before its final day! If you’re a big fan of this place—or even if you’re not—I urge you to do the same.

What to Do Before Closure Day

From: 1939singapore

L1: Three Buns

Starting off strong, we have Three Buns on the first floor, and this restaurant is best known for its burgers. Seriously, their menu features a long list of burger options, so I understand if you feel overwhelmed!

My ultimate favourite has to be the Truff Ryder, which is made of Tasmanian Vintage beef patty, seared foie gras, house truffle cheese, and truffled onion marmalade. Rich indulgence is in every bite, and I’m obsessed with the savoury, earthy, and umami flavour combo! Pair that with a pint of beer, and I’m set for the night!

L2: The Restaurant

I know The Restaurant isn’t exactly a creative name, but they make up for it with their gorgeous interior design. This place looks like a work of art, with colourful murals and eye-catching statues. Oh, and of course, the food is great as well!

I love ordering the lamb kofta, which is a lamb skewer that’s so damn juicy and savoury. It also has a nice char that adds a bit of smokiness, as well as a kick of garlicky spice from the aioli. The best part is that this has a sizeable portion, so feel free to share with your friends.

L3: Studio 1939 Cocktail Bar

If you’re just in the mood for a good cocktail, then you’d better head to the Studio 1939 Cocktail Bar. This bar has that speakeasy vibe that I love: the dark, moody lighting and the small, cosy space.

I’m very basic, so I usually just get a glass of wine. My preference is the Montmeyrac Grande Selection, which is a rosé wine. There are other options as well, such as whisky, gin, and vodka.

L4: The Rooftop Bar

Do you want to enjoy a gorgeous view while dining? Then, you’ll love The Rooftop Bar! This restaurant even has fairy lights strung up everywhere, giving off romantic vibes. As such, why not go on a date with your partner here?

I’m obsessed with the sweet treats here. In particular, I always get Wilfred’s Brownie, which is just so decadent. It has four types of chocolate, plus a generous heaping of walnuts. And then it’s topped with the creamiest ice cream and even more chocolate sauce. Yum!

How to Get There

The best way to reach 1939 Singapore is by riding the bus. Ride either bus service 61 or 166 and then alight at the bus stop opposite Maxwell Station Exit 3. From there, you can walk to the establishment, which should only take you about three minutes.
