I was shopping at Tanglin Mall when I noticed expats and locals going in and out of Hera Hera Beauty. Turns out, the buzz was mostly about their high-end extensions made from 100% human hair.

I stepped inside to give it a go—a wise decision. The friendly staff were quick yet not pushy during the consultation and fittings, and they clearly discussed topics such as customisation options and pricing.

In the end, I chose tape-in extensions and wasn’t disappointed. The ultra-thin strips were meticulously sandwiched between my scalp, resulting in a cosy feel and natural look.

Thanks to their massive catalogue and flexibility, the stylists were also able to match the extensions’ colour with that of my actual hair.

Price-wise, they’re about S$20 to S$30 more expensive than Singapore’s usual rates.

The bigger issue is their history of sudden rescheduling. That’s concerning if you follow a tight schedule.

Sweet and Transparent

I walked into Hera Hair Beauty looking for a hair rescue after a really bad haircut somewhere else and they were able to fit me in on the same day and transformed my hair!

Alina was amazing and took the time to understand what I was looking for originally and corrected the issues my previous haircut had.

Incorporated in 2023, Venus Salon was among the most brought-up names during our brainstorming sesh for this article. I’d say it was justified, considering hair extensions are what they’re best known for.

From our chats, clients especially praised the salon’s ‘almost invisible bands’ and full customisability. Even those donning playful colours, such as baby pink, enjoyed natural-looking transitions.

Expert advice is another factor why they’re here. Venus’ stylists are typically described as honest and straightforward, particularly when it comes to colour matching.

On the flip side, some of the stylists may come across as cold. Some clients didn’t like their hard-selling and dismissiveness.

They also typically charge more than the standard rate.

That said, their ability to retain clients is noticeable. Most people we spoke to have returned to Venus for extensions five times or more, citing the extensions’ authenticity and longevity as significant reasons why.

Friendly and Attentive

I’m blown away by the amazing service at Venus Salon! Not only did I get an incredible haircut and style, but the prices were reasonable too.

But the real surprise was the massage chair while washing my hair – talk about relaxation! The staff were friendly and attentive (William), making the whole experience truly enjoyable.

For me, JT Hair’s staff is one of the best in Singapore. I’ve been coming back since they opened in 2020, and the team has always been warm.

They’re patient as well. I’ve brought first-timers here who asked tons of questions, and they never seemed irked about the many queries.

Best of all, they’re technically skilled. Like most of the salon’s clientele, I love how natural and soft their extensions are, with them normally holding up for around 2 to 4 months.

Stylists like Wu and Jason are quite meticulous, too. Sure, some might not enjoy longer appointments, but I personally don’t mind extra time for consultations and colour matching if it means getting things right.

I’d be direct, though; most of the staff members aren’t fluent in English. If you visit without a translator, you’d probably have a hard time here.

Plus, their portfolio for extensions is shorter compared to those of older, bigger salons.

Great Atmosphere

Nice staff and great atmosphere, hair extensions felt amazing to sleep in, and the hair is still relatively soft and can be easily combed through even after colouring it.

Managed to get my wanted hair colour and colour-matched it to the hair extensions. Staff doesn’t rush their job and they do it slowly to make sure you’re satisfied.

They also help fit into my budget needs to give me the best quality hair at a decent reasonable price.

I Felt Comfortable

D’Lash and Hair Extension is a reliable choice for those on a tight budget. Their hair extension rates are generally consistent with the local average, and promotions, such as S$100 for 150 strands, pop up regularly.

Their variety isn’t shabby either. In fact, the first thing we noticed here was the salon’s lengthy row of naturally looking strands in more than 20 shades and styles, including flashier ones.

Another positive quality we like is their genuine small-business warmth. The service our team got was pressure-free, with the stylists offering post-treatment hacks, particularly on how to avoid tangling.

Like the previous entry, though, it’s best to swing by with a translator if you can’t speak Mandarin. We’ve encountered customers who misunderstood their pricing list due to the language barrier.

The salon itself isn’t the most glamorous either; it’s more compact compared to the bigger names here, and the cleanliness could use a bit of attention.

If you’re particularly looking for a salon that specialises in the seal method, Number76 is worth considering. All of their extension services use this approach.

What are the perks of that? For starters, it’s way gentler since no autosonic weaving or melting tools are involved. Every strand comes with pre-equipped adhesive tabs and is attached by hand.

The salon’s experienced stylists, chiefly Justin and Adam, are also pretty efficient. From what we gathered, every row generally takes them 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

As you’d probably guess, the method doesn’t come cheap. That’s especially the case for longer locks (50 to 55 cm), with every piece costing $13.

Fortunately, pricing is discussed during consultations, and the salon doesn’t have a reputation for upselling.

That said, they do have a history of less-than-welcoming receptionists. Some clients have dealt with eye-rolls and snarky remarks.

The silver lining? There are rarely any complaints about the stylists’ attitude.

No Pressure or Hard Selling

Started going to Number76 when they first opened their KL branch in 2012, and I’ve been with them ever since. All their stylists are skilful and professional. One thing I really appreciate is how easygoing they are—no pressure or hard selling.

Hi, I would like to recommend Joey for everyone those that would like to do Ash Colour. I was a regular customer there, usually I go there and cut hair, and this year I chose to go there to do my Ash Gray Hair Colour✨

Joey was friendly and managed to get the hair colour that I want! Most salons said my hair can’t achieve Ash Gray, but Joey did it herself from bleaching to colouring, carefully checking each step.

Some salons just dump you on assistants, but not her. For those who want colour done right, go to Joey!
