Awaken your child’s inner artist at the Gallery Children’s Biennale 2025!

Gallery Children’s Biennale 2025

Where: National Gallery Singapore, 1 St Andrew’s Rd

When: May 31, 2025, to March 26, 2026

Admission Fee: Free

Personally, I believe in exposing your child to good art as soon as possible so that they’ll develop a taste early on—even better if they develop a passion for making art.

That’s why I try to bring them to the Gallery Children’s Biennale, one of National Gallery Singapore’s signature events. This happens every year, and for its 5th edition, it starts on May 31, 2025, and will end on March 26, 2026. That’s almost a whole year, so you have a lot of time to check it out.

If you do check it out, here are some things that you can expect.

What to Expect

From: nationalgallerysingapore

This year’s theme for the Gallery Children’s Biennale is “Tomorrow, We’ll Be…,” so it’s safe to say you can expect the art pieces on display to be exploring the endless possibilities of the future.

Oh, and this art event is also in a unique position because it’s in conjunction with the National Gallery’s 10th anniversary and Singapore’s 60th birthday. So, on top of all the futuristic-themed art, there will also be works by local and international artists celebrating these momentous occasions!

From what I’ve heard, this year’s Gallery Children’s Biennale will have several unique art installations. Full details haven’t been released yet, so look out for more news. So far, here’s everything we know about these installations.

  • Can you see the forest for the trees?
    • Where: City Hall Wing, Level B1, The Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium Anteroom
    • What: This installation repurposes used textiles and recycled materials into art pieces. As such, it’s meant to encourage children to care for the environment.
  • We Move This City
    • Where: City Hall Wing, Level 1, City Hall Foyer
    • What: This installation is like a bigger version of LEGO blocks—if LEGO blocks are made with felt, that is. Here, children can use their imagination and build futuristic vehicles using the blocks.
  • Foundation Wave
    • Where: Supreme Court Wing, Level 1, Supreme Court Foyer and Corridor
    • What: This art installation is an interesting structure carved with waves. You can also record your heartbeat and listen to other people’s heartbeats. It sounds like a fascinating experience, one that invites us to connect with other people.
  • HUTAN
    • Where: Supreme Court Wing, Level B1, Kow Seow Chuan Concourse Gallery
    • What: HUTAN is an installation that plays with art, sounds, and technology. The result is a magical and whimsical forest-like world that encourages children to be present and embrace the beauty of nature.
  • SAMA-SAMA
    • Where: City Hall Wing, Level 1, Opposite Keppel Centre for Art Education
    • What: This installation depicts the different moments in the artist’s life as a mother. As such, you’ll come away from this installation feeling the urge to create more memories with your family.
  • Compound
    • Where: Level 1, Padang Atrium
    • What: In this art installation, drawings made by children come to life. See what squiggly lines would look like in a 3D space, and get inspired by the fact that even “nonsensical” art has room in the world.
  • Optical Paths
    • Where: Supreme Court Wing, Level B1, Outside Koh Seow Chuan Concourse Gallery
    • What: It’s an optical illusion made with evolving lines. Test your vision and the strength of your mind because the lines will definitely be playing tricks on you!
  • The Magic Forest
    • Where: City Hall Wing, Level 1, Opposite Keppel Centre for Art Education
    • What: This is a room decked with fantastical-themed decorations. The magical atmosphere is meant to inspire children to make their very own art.
  • Tide
    • Where: City Hall Wing, Level 1, City Hall Foyer
    • What: This installation features garbage we normally find floating in the ocean. It’s supposed to help children learn more about pollution, specifically how it harms the environment.
  • When I Am With You
    • Where: Supreme Court Wing, Level 1, Padang Atrium
    • What: This is another installation that draws inspiration from the ocean; only this time, the focus is on the precious treasures and amazing wildlife hidden there.
  • I Love You
    • Where: Supreme Court Wing, Level B1, Koh Seow Chuan Concourse Gallery
    • What: This features soft sculptures that spell out “I love you” in the Malay language that was widely used in the past—Jawi. The artist aims to encourage viewers to show more love to each other, as well as appreciate the beauty of languages, both surviving and extinct.
