Age Requirement

There is no definite age requirement to enter the ArtScience Museum. However, some parts of the exhibitions may have minimum height requirements for children of about 1.20 metres for optimal enjoyment.

The ArtScience Cinema, on the other hand, includes the use of wireless headphones that are suitable for guests aged 4 years old and above. Children below the age range may find the wireless headphones uncomfortable.

How to Get to the ArtScience Museum

What to Do and See in the ArtScience Museum

See art and science collide at Future World: Where Art Meets Science

Average Time Spent: From 60 minutes to 1.5 hours

Admission Times: Every 30 minutes starting from opening (10:00 am)

Website

What’s impressive? Viewing some of the most valued and important artworks around the world, in some of the most revered art institutions.

What’s even more impressive is watching them come to life, all in one giant space in Singapore. ArtScience Museum’s Future World: Where Art Meets Science gives visitors a feast for the senses, and viewing these artworks isn’t enough.

You can interact with them, pose next to them from multiple angles, and even include yourself in the holograms for a little twist to your typical hide-and-seek. The installations are made in collaboration with teamLab, so be ready for high expectations to be met!

Tips:

  • While most of the ArtScience Museum is wheelchair-accessible, strollers are not permitted inside this exhibition. If you have children with you, prepare to carry them through the exhibit. There are, however, stroller parking slots near the entrance.
  • Some installations inside the exhibit require a minimum guest height of 1.20 metres for optimal enjoyment.

Catch a film at the ArtScience Cinema

Average Time Spent: From 60 minutes to two hours

Admission Times: Open daily, doors open 15 minutes before each showtime

Website

The ArtScience Museum also houses a cinema that screens select feature films and short films for visitors. The cinema features comfy seating, surround-sound wireless headphones, and ultra HD projectors to give visitors a cinema experience like no other.

Personally, I love that they provide wireless headphones, because that means I can control the volume as much as I’d like. Kids are also allowed to join in on the cinema experience but note that the headphones are made for kids aged 4 and above.

Aside from films, the cinema also features film festival winners, documentaries, and more. Screened films change regularly, but I recommend checking the website for more info on the latest film lineup at the cinema!

Tips:

  • Unlike typical cinemas in Singapore, you are not allowed to bring in snacks and drinks inside the ArtScience Cinema, unfortunately.
  • You can’t choose your seats inside the cinema in advance. Because it’s a free screening, seats are allotted for guests on a first-come, first-served basis. I highly recommend coming in 15 to 30 minutes before screening to ensure that you get good seats and have first dibs on the wireless headphones!

If you’re looking for something cool for your kids to do, I recommend letting their creativity run free with the Digital Light Canvas. This activity is one of the most popular ones inside the museum, and any guest regardless of age is free to join.

The Digital Light Canvas was made in collaboration with teamLab, an international art organisation. Through the attraction, the canvas enables people to draw installations on paper and watch them come to life on a digital display on the floor.

You can jump around, dance, or walk under your own creations for the whole duration you’re inside the facility. Even better, you can take home your drawings as souvenirs (at no extra charge!).

Tips:

  • The Digital Light Canvas by teamLab has its own admission fees, but if you’ve already purchased an entry ticket for the Future World: Where Art Meets Science Exhibitions, tickets will only cost $7 per person.
  • It’s best to experience the interactive canvas wearing closed shoes and comfortable clothing that will allow you to freely jump, walk, or dance around the floor. I don’t recommend wearing heels!

Location: VR Gallery, Level 4

Average Time Spent: From 45 minutes to 60 minutes

If you think that the ArtScience Museum’s interactive exhibitions are impressive enough, wait until you visit their VR Gallery. This gallery is wholly dedicated to showcasing virtual reality artworks that you can almost touch.

Usually, it showcases artworks displayed in current exhibitions, letting you feel and see the artworks using cutting-edge virtual reality equipment. That said, the displays change as new exhibitions are showcased in the museum.

The gallery has multiple egg chairs with their own VR goggles and controllers. Feel free to reach out and venture into the digital art space while wearing the gear. Just note that you’re not allowed to stand up from your seat.

Tips:

  • Promotions for discounted rates to the VR Gallery are dependent on the current exhibition admission fees at the ArtScience Museum. Tickets to it are not included in the ArtScience Friends Membership fees, but you can still get discounts!
  • Note that the VR experiences are not designed for pregnant women, the elderly, or guests with pre-existing conditions that may be triggered due to flashing lights. Please consider skipping the attraction if you have a history of epilepsy or vision problems.

Capture memories with the Photography VIP Experience

Average Time Spent: Two hours, with additional hours subject to fees

Admission Times: Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am to 10:00 am or 10:00 am to 11:00 am only

Website

If you want to capture everything during your visit to the ArtScience Museum, I recommend booking the Photography VIP Experience. This experience allows you, your friends, family, or significant other to take professional photos around the museum.

Most people who book this experience are newly wedded couples or couples who are about to get married. You don’t need to be celebrating your nuptials to experience this though, so make sure to invite your family or friends for the experience.

With the experience, you get first dibs on three select locations in the museum. Within two hours, you’ll take photos in your select exhibitions before the doors even open to the public for more privacy and zero nuisances.

Tips:

  • You can only invite a maximum of 10 people to join you on the Photography VIP experience, and that includes your photography crew.
  • The experience doesn’t include a photographer, so source one on your own in advance.
  • There will be a host or representative from the ArtScience Museum staff to guide you through the shooting locations. They’ll be your main contact person for the shoot!

Take a guided tour around the ArtScience Museum with their educational specialists

Average Time Spent: 60 minutes to 90 minutes

Admission Times: Tour times depend on booking

Website

Tours around the ArtScience Museum’s exhibitions are one of the best ways to fully immerse yourself in the experience. These tours are given by educational specialists who have immense knowledge about the current exhibitions, so you’ll learn a lot!

There are three main types of tours: the Architecture of ArtScience Museum Tour, the Sustainability in Design Tour, and the regular ArtScience Museum Tour. All tours can be given in either English or Mandarin and are charged at $5 a person.

These tours are typically booked in advance, but the regular museum tour can be booked on the same day as your visit, as long as you have a same-day admission ticket. You can inquire about them at the concierge near the entrance of the museum.

Tip:

  • Check out this page to see tour dates on selected exhibitions and experiences. Make sure to book your tickets in advance and read through the details to ensure you get to the tour on time and on the correct date.

Where to Eat and Drink in the ArtScience Museum

Miracle Coffee

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

Good to know: Best for coffee breaks and small bites

Website

Miracle Coffee is a go-to for a quick caffeine and snack fix in the museum. Their most popular coffee type is pour-over coffee, which is made from freshly ground beans, and then filtered through with piping hot water.

The result is a hot cup of aromatic coffee with a balanced acidity. They make all sorts of drinks, but their signature offering is the Kaya Cloud, an Americano with fresh cream, kaya (coconut jam), and shaved palm sugar.

Aside from coffee, they also serve small bites like croissants, Danishes, taco salads, sandwiches, cakes, and fruit parfaits—basically, everything you need to fuel up for a whole day of wandering around the museum!

Tips:

  • This is the only cafe located inside the museum, so expect a lot of people swinging by for a food and drink fix. That said, I recommend taking your orders to-go in case you can’t find a seat!
  • If you need to recharge your devices, the cafe has seats with power plugs. Just head over to the edge of the cafe, near the walls and windows, to find them. Don’t forget to share the sockets, though!
