A Local’s Palawan Beach Guide for a Family & Pet-Friendly Fun Day Out

Palawan Beach is a hidden gem on Sentosa Island that’s perfect for families. Sure, some might confuse it with Palawan Island in the Philippines, but I like to believe our local version has plenty of charm and fun to offer!

There’s a lot you can do here: run around with your pets, dine to your heart’s content, play around a floating obstacle course, or hunt for large wooden sculptures.

As a regular beachgoer, I promise you’ll find everything you need for an epic day at the beach. To kick off your adventure, here’s my specially curated Palawan Beach guide!

How to Get to Palawan Beach

By Train: On the main island, take the MRT to HarbourFront Station and head to VivoCity to take the Sentosa Express Monorail. The monorail will take you to Sentosa Island, and from there, alight at Beach Station.

By Bus: Take the MRT to HarbourFront Station and then hop on Bus RWS8. Get off at the Resorts World Sentosa stop, and from there, catch either Sentosa Bus A or C, which will take you to Beach Station.

By Car: The nearest car parks to Palawan Beach are Tanjong 1 Car Park and inside The Palawan @ Sentosa.

Top Things to Do in Palawan Beach

Try as many watersport activities as you can

From sentosa_island

Palawan Beach offers a variety of water sports and outdoor activities to satisfy your need for an adrenaline rush. You can try kayaking, paddle-boarding, banana boat rides, jetpacks, jet blades, and more.

If you’re not into high-energy adventures, you can simply relax in the serene turquoise waters of the lagoon. The beach’s clear and calm waters are perfect for swimming, and safety is top-notch with lifeguards constantly patrolling the area.

Tips:

  • Forgot your sunscreen? There’s a sunscreen dispenser near the lifeguard post on the beach. Just follow the instructions written on the sign to get your much-needed sunscreen dose throughout the day.
  • If you’re feeling thirsty or need to buy supplies, there’s a 7-Eleven store on the beach. You’re allowed to bring your own drinks to the beach so long as you clean up after yourself.

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm

Do you want to take your furry ones out for a beach day out? The perfect place to get them running around near the beach is at The Palawan Dog Run, a playground specifically designed for your pets.

The grassy area is also great for visitors who want to take a light jog around the beach area without worrying about sand getting in their shoes! Plus, your dogs can go off-leash here too.

Tips:

  • There are picnic benches inside the dog park in case you want to just relax and watch your four-legged pets run around you. There’s ample shade, too, if the sun gets too hot.
  • The best time to visit the dog park is around 9:00 am or late in the afternoon. The grass can get really hot by noon, which may be harmful to your pets, so try to drop by very early in the morning.

Feeling the need for speed? Get ready to buckle up as HyperDrive’s gamified indoor go-kart circuit delivers a heart-pounding adrenaline rush!

What sets this track apart is that it introduced Asia’s first “Game of Karts” gamified karting experience, combining virtual racing with real go-karting for an immersive adventure.

As you race to the podium, you can collect bonuses like ‘weapons’ or ‘special powers,’ making the experience even more exhilarating and very much like a real-life Mario Kart game!

Tips:

  • If you’re bringing your family, you can choose the Dual Kart option—a tandem car that doubles the fun and is safe for children (so long as the adult is the one driving the kart!).
  • Make sure to read the karting categories thoroughly before booking your session. The Dual Kart is only for licensed adult drivers with children passengers. The Senior Kart is for adult drivers without a driver’s licence.

Hydro Dash is the island’s first-ever floating obstacle course that features a wide range of challenges like monkey bars, trampolines, and more.

It’s a family-friendly attraction on the beach that’s designed to keep you and your littles one adrenaline pumping for hours.

If you’re looking for a bit more challenge, there’s a section in the obstacle course that mimics what you’ll typically find in a Ninja Warrior competition. They’re not as difficult but they’re equally thrilling and fun to get on!

Tips:

  • Just note that HydroDash temporarily closes down during ocean cleanup season or when there are oil spills on the beaches. Make sure to check out the website for updates on closures and announcements on any changes to the operating hours.
  • You pay an extra $2 for weather insurance, which basically grants you a one-time reschedule in case of inclement weather during your visit. It’s completely optional, but I recommend buying it just in case.

The best part about this course is that it’s at the beachside. You get the sea breeze, a healthy dose of Vitamin D from the sun, and unlimited fun for anyone regardless of skill level.

Tips:

  • Kids are welcome to join in on the fun, but anyone younger than 13 years old should be accompanied by a paying adult to play on the course.
  • I recommend coming in on a weekday to enjoy discounted rates. Admission during the peak season (weekends) increases up to $22 per person per game.

Explore the different sculptures around the beach

Did the four giant wooden sculptures catch your eye? These giant sculptures scattered around the beach are part of a collective display named “Explorers of Sentosa” by renowned Copenhagen-based recycling artist Thomas Dambo.

The keyword here is recycling, and yes, these sculptures are made of recycled wood, crates, and floorboards that were previously discarded on the shores.

These sculptures are meant to inspire sustainability in art. Dambo aims to promote recycling by showing his admirers that something like trash can be turned into beautiful things.

Tip:

  • For a more immersive experience, Sentosa put up an online quest that visitors can join to find these sculptures on the beach. You’ll be given clues and learn more about the giants’ stories as you go through each step.

Spend some fun quality time with your kids at Splash Tribe

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30 am to 10:30 pm

Website

If you and your kids still have energy left to spare, I recommend taking your whole family to Splash Tribe. This sprawling wet playground features spiral slides, fountains, and wading pools surrounding a giant sandcastle.

While your kids play around the wet playground, the adults can lounge on the daybeds or take a dip in the adult pool. If you don’t like that, you’re welcome to join the kids on the playground (don’t worry, they’re designed for adults too!).

Tips:

  • To get a daybed or cabana, you’ll need to meet a minimum spending requirement. The values depend on what kind of table you’re getting. A table starts at $50 while a gazebo can go up to $400.
  • I highly recommend coming here on a weekday because minimum spending rates are pricier on weekends. You might end up spending over $600 just to snag a table here!

Go island hopping (literally on foot)!

From sentosa_island

Address: Palawan Island
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
Website

It’s only in Sentosa where you can go island hopping on foot, and it’s all thanks to the suspended bridges that connect the beach to a manmade islet. This islet, nicknamed “The Southernmost Point of Continental Asia,” is a popular spot on the beach.

The two tall towers provide excellent vantage points for watching the sunset. My personal favourite spot, though, is near the unique 90-degree coconut tree. This tree has a trunk that extends horizontally before curving upward at a right angle.

Tips:

  • The best time to visit the islet is around 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm (sunset hour). Climb up the towers to catch the sunset without any interference in the horizon!
  • There are no restrooms on the islet, so do your business on the main beach before heading there.

Where to Eat and Drink in Palawan Beach

When I envision dining by the beach, Mediterranean cuisine immediately comes to mind. One of my top spots to enjoy healthy and delicious Mediterranean dishes is FOC By The Beach.

The restaurant mainly specialises in coastal Spanish fare, so you’ll find a lot of seafood signatures like raw or cured tuna, oysters, anchovies, squid, prawns, and fish.

The bestsellers (and my favourites)? The mouthwatering octopus and squid ink paella paired with a slice of their Basque cheesecake.

Tips:

  • If you want to order paella, prepare to wait a while before the pan rolls out on your table. Paella orders require a 30-minute preparation time because the restaurant cooks on a per-order basis.
  • I highly recommend booking a table in advance, especially if you want to snag a dining table for more than two guests. If you miss out on an early reservation, you might end up getting seated by the bar (tables are reserved for larger groups unless reserved in advance).

+Twelve is an exclusive spot that boasts twelve private terraced cabanas, where you can savour delectable food, enjoy premium drinks, and dance to vibrant music, all while relaxing in personal plunge pools with stunning sea views.

A few must-tries on their menu are the wagyu satay, club salad, tropical fruit salad, and the +Twelve sushi boat. Wash all the good food down with their signature cocktails like the +Twelve Pina Colada and the pomelo gin-based The Painter.

Tips:

  • Note that the bar and restaurant are for adults only. Guests should be above 16 years of age, and the staff may require guests to present identification or proof of age upon entry.
  • There’s a minimum spend to reserve a table, cabana, or daybed in the bar during their afternoon hours (2:00 pm to 9:00 pm).
If you’re dropping by solo or with another person, I recommend getting the sun loungers because the minimum spend is only $50.
If you don’t want to spend as much, you can drop by in the morning (11:00 am) because the minimum spend requirement will be waived until 2:00 pm.

Blu Kouzina

Another Mediterranean food spot on the beach is Blu Kouzina. What I love the most about this place is that the ambience really makes you feel like you’ve been transported to the coastal towns of Greece.

The breezy atmosphere and the healthy but hearty meals are what entice me to always come back. Some bestsellers include the hummus, beef moussaka, and the Blu cheeseburger that I highly recommend pairing with the Talagani fries.

Tips:

  • There’s a minimum spending requirement of around $160. This requirement isn’t explicitly stated on their reservations site, unfortunately.
  • You also can’t choose your table here. If you make a reservation, the restaurant will choose a table for you.
  • Bring your own bottle of water if you don’t want to spend extra. They don’t serve complimentary service water here, and bottled water here costs $12 a pop!

The Palawan Food Trucks is a collection of 10 food trucks offering a variety of local and international fare, from beloved street food to cocktails. If you’re looking for a more casual and budget-friendly dining option, you’ll be spoilt for choice here.

A few notable trucks include Off The Hook, an Aussie seafood shack, Sweet Mother of Pearl, a Singaporean bubble tea stall, and Tropo Burgers, a vegan-friendly food truck that whips up tasty plant-based burgers and finger foods!

Tips:

  • Note that the food trucks don’t accept cash payments, so top up your digital wallets and your credit cards to pay for your orders.
  • Seating is very limited next to the food trucks, so I recommend dropping by after lunch (around 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm) to avoid the crowds. Otherwise, you can also order takeout and take your meals to the beach for a picnic.
