What To Do In Singapore’s Haji Lane: Fashion, Food, And Fun

Kampong Glam is one of the most popular districts in Singapore thanks to its numerous trendy cafes, lively bar scene, and artsy local shops. Within the district is an equally vibrant enclave called Haji Lane, a narrow alley typically considered a lifestyle hub.

You’ll find lots of vintage fashion stores, animal cafes, tattoo shops, casual bars, and many restaurants serving up halal-friendly Indian and Malay cuisine. Let’s not forget about the street art scene too!

If you’re visiting Singapore for the first time, Haji Lane is one place you must visit to really immerse yourself in the island’s art and food scene. To make it easier for you, here’s a guide to the area!

How To Get There

By Train: If you’re using the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), you can alight at Bugis MRT Station and walk for approximately 10 minutes to reach Haji Lane.

By Car: There is very limited street parking along Haji Lane, as it is a narrow alley within Kampong Glam.

If you’re bringing a car, we highly suggest parking your car at the Aliwal Street Car Park or the Public Car Park along Sultan Gate, then walk westwards to Haji Lane.

By Bus: The bus lines that serve or pass near Haji Lane are Bus 21, 24, 25, 30, 7, and 966. You can alight at Bedok Reservoir Road or Lengkong Tiga and walk two to five minutes to reach Haji Lane.

What To Do

Admire the colourful and vibrant street art

From didierjabamathieu

One of the most defining features of the vibrant Haji Lane is its art-clad walls. As you walk through the numerous trendy cafes, shops, and restaurants, you’ll quickly notice that the walls are filled with street art—some hiding between alleys!

Taking the time to take pictures and pose next to these murals is one of the best things to do in Haji Lane. After all, the area is known among locals as the birthplace of Singaporean street art!

You’ll find works made by artists like Didier Jaba Mathieu and Mohammad Azlan Ramlan (Ceno2) adorning the back walls of famous cafes and bistros like the Piedra Negra and the Blu Jaz Cafe.

Tip: When you encounter a mural, don’t rush. Take your time admiring it. Some street artists are known to leave hidden messages or leave spots for visitors to interact with the artwork!

One Click Studio is a self-photo studio in Singapore that lets you take photos against colourful or cute backgrounds and props. The studio’s founders aimed to create a safe space for people to capture memories without the pressure of time and money.

As the name suggests, the studio enables guests to take photos by themselves with just one click. The most basic package costs $35 and gives you and one other person 15 minutes of unlimited shooting and editing.

You’re given enough time to choose your backdrop, filters, and props around the studio before you start shooting. Although the basic package is made for two people, you can add an additional person for just $10!

Tips:
One Click Studio allows guests to take pictures with their pets with packages starting at $55 a session. This includes 20 minutes of unlimited shooting for two people and one pet, plus six printout copies.
Any additional pet incurs a $20 fee.

If you don’t like the regular printout versions of your photos, you can also ask the staff to get a Polaroid print of them instead. Rates start at $10 per copy!

They call themselves a cafe, but What The Pug is so much more than a place to get coffee. It’s actually one of Singapore’s most popular petting cafes where visitors drop by and pet the adorable pugs inside.

Instead of letting visitors order drinks and have the dogs run free around them, anyone who drops by has to pay an entrance fee of $28 per person. The ticket is inclusive of 45 minutes of petting, a Polaroid photo as a souvenir, and a drink.

Slots need to be booked in advance through this page. There is no age limit to participate in the petting sessions, but children should always be accompanied by an adult when approaching the pugs (but don’t worry, they’re super friendly!).

Tips:
Rescheduling your petting session at What The Pug must be done 24 hours in advance, or else your ticket will be forfeited if you fail to show up.

There is also an option for a Multi-Day Pass that comes with 6 petting sessions. These sessions can be split between other customers at a flat rate of $20 per person.
