All About Joo Chiat

Joo Chiat is a long main road located in the Katong and Geylang districts of Singapore. It’s located between Marine Parade Road and Geylang Serai and branches out to Joo Chiat Terrace, Joo Chiat Lane, and Joo Chiat Place.
Locals consider Joo Chiat and Katong to be one distinct neighbourhood and often hyphenate it to Katong-Joo Chiat when referring to points of interest within the area.
History

Before the early 1900s, Joo Chiat was owned by coconut plantation owners. By the turn of the 20th century, a wealthy Chinese man named Chew Joo Chiat bought most of the land to start his own plantation.
In the 1910s–20s, Chew Joo Chiat enhanced his plantations, donated land for roads, and inspired housing development in Singapore.
Joo Chiat Road, named in his honour, now boasts well-preserved shophouses from the 1920s–30s, housing museums, cafes, and residences with intricate carvings and vibrant facades.
How to Get Around
By Bus: Singapore has an extensive bus network in Joo Chiat. Bus routes mainly stop at Joo Chiat Complex via Bus Lines 16, 30, 33, and 51.
By Train: Although Joo Chiat doesn’t have its own MRT station, you can easily reach it by connecting from nearby MRT stations like Eunos, Paya Lebar, and Dakota. From there, you can take a bus or walk to your desired destination in Joo Chiat.
By Taxi or Car: You can rent a private car to get to any destination within Joo Chiat, but parking may be limited. Ride-hailing or taxis may be a better option to skip the hassle of parking.

A Vintage Tale is a homely vintage shop located inside a converted shophouse. Most of the items they have on hand are novelty items and clothing dating back to the 1950s, so if you love thrift shopping, this is one place you can get some retail therapy.
It’s also hard to miss this quant vintage shop thanks to the large neon pink sign adorning its facade. The interiors may also catch your eye as you walk by the store, so take some pictures of your best finds while inside!
