Pros

  • Plans cater to various budgets
  • Sufficient personal accident coverage
  • Helpful customer service

Cons

  • Payout cap limited at 100%
  • Occasional glitches on the online claims portal

FWD Insurance’s five-tier plans and affordable premiums make the company one of the best-value options on our list.

Most of the clients we interviewed mentioned that paying premiums under the first three tiers isn’t a burden at all. They added that the plan inclusions are substantial despite the low rates.

They also find the $500 ambulance fee coverage a helpful inclusion, not to mention that it’s available whatever plan tier they’re in.

One customer added that he’s grateful for the acupuncturist and chiropractor treatment coverage. He needed to undergo sessions after an accident and the benefit helped reduce his expenses.

Many also lauded FWD Insurance’s customer service, particularly how the company’s online claims portal expedited the process.

However, the system isn’t invulnerable to glitches, so a few customers experienced delays in sending their claim requests.

That said, processing claims was pleasant overall for most, as they got to talk to a human liaison and not a bot.

Know also that customers on a budget who availed of the three lower tiers will have to purchase the daily hospital income benefit as an add-on.

This additional coverage will cost the plan holders another $50 to $200.

Pros

  • Ideal for families
  • Competitive premium rates
  • Regular promos for plan holders

Cons

  • Slow responses possible
  • Lower maximum payout compared to other agencies

HL Assurance’s personal accident plan can be most appealing to individuals with kids.

The company’s Accident Protect 360 offers payables for both adults and their child dependents, allowing for greater peace of mind should the holder get into a mishap.

The maximum payout for each adult is $250,000, though, which might be lower compared to what other providers offer.

Still, clients who purchased the plan said the additional payout for the kids (which is up to 50,000) makes up for the lower limit.

Costumers also find the $1,000 mobile phone/credit card outstanding bills coverage a convenient inclusion, since they might not have the bandwidth to think of the said expenses during emergencies.

The 15% no-claims bonus, which is given annually, is also great. However, not withdrawing a claim may be hard to attain for plan holders who are regularly active and hence closer to injury risks.

We also heard from some clients about reports of slow or lack of responses from the agency. The instances were few and resolved after a few weeks, but it proved to be an additional stress to the insured and their family members.

Pros

  • Reasonable premium rates
  • Hospitalization cash benefits in all tiers
  • Offers free cover for up to three children
  • Offers 30% additional coverage when applicant reaches four years

Cons

  • Limited to basic personal accident plan inclusions
  • Highest tier not available for people involved with manual work or machinery

MSIG Insurance’s personal accident offering ticks the right boxes for an extensive plan, covering accidental death, disablement, and hospitalization in all its tiers.

The total disability max payout of $375,000 for platinum plan holders isn’t bad, too, since the beneficiary can get daily hospitalization cash support on top of the payable.

Know, though, that the cash assistance is only good for 50 days.

Benefits in case of accidental death are reasonable, too. Some of the plan holders pointed to the bereavement grant as helpful additional support should misfortune arise and they’d have a family left behind.

Speaking of families, the plan is also family-friendly, thanks to its free coverage of up to three child dependents and premium discount for the applicant’s spouse.

Clients we interviewed clarified that you could only enjoy these benefits if you and your spouse sign up at the same time, though.

As for the claims process, we only heard a few complaints from clients. Many of them shared that they received payouts within a week or two.

The complaints were mostly about slow response rates and the online system not working, which caused slight processing delays.

We also think that though sufficient, the plan only offers the usual inclusions. Additional protection on property or infectious diseases isn’t covered unlike with other companies.

Pros

  • High payouts
  • Easy application process
  • Covers medical reimbursement for 21 infectious diseases

Cons

  • Premiums can be pricey
  • Occasional slow responses from agents

Plan holders who want a significant payout and plenty of additional benefits might find Prudential Singapore an attractive prospect.

The company offers six tiers for its basic personal accident plan, with payouts starting from $100,000 to $1,000,000 for accidental death and dismemberment.

The catch is that you can receive triple the sum if your accident involves public transport usage.

Aside from the payout, clients mentioned that the plan’s medical coverage for 21 infectious diseases gives them peace of mind.

One applicant who made use of the plan when they were down with dengue lauded the reimbursement benefit, saying that the claiming process was smooth.

Another client said the $1,500 coverage for Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments was quite a helpful sum after she needed to undergo a few sessions following a mishap.

That said, we think Prudential’s premiums are a bit pricier compared to other companies on our list, so this option might be best for applicants with more money to spare.

Hospitalization and recovery supports also come as add-ons, meaning clients will have to pay additional premiums to avail of them.

This setup is unlike other insurance companies that include hospitalization and mobility cash benefits on the plan’s base prices.

We also gathered a few comments about some of Prudential’s agents being slow to respond, which added to the anxiety of the plan holders who experienced it.

Pros

  • Extensive coverage includes food poisoning and COVID-19
  • Includes support for facial reconstruction surgery
  • Easy application process
  • Generally smooth claiming process

Cons

  • Occasional online payment glitches
  • Slow responses possible

Etiqa Insurance’s extensive coverage allows applicants to get a bit of everything related to accidents and infectious diseases at reasonable rates.

Clients mentioned that an up to $500,000 accident and disablement max payout is a good price, considering the affordability of the premiums.

The plan also provides medical expenses of up to $2,000 and death benefits amounting to $50,000 for 22 infectious diseases including dengue.

Few insurance companies will include benefits for infectious disease-related deaths, making Etiqa a standout.

The hospitalization allowance support is also longer at 180 days, which clients said assures them of reduced financial burden due to hospital stays.

Meanwhile, some plan holders who were down with COVID-19 (and recovered) availed of the $50 hospital cash benefit following their admissions. While the money support is not that substantial, it did help ease some of their family’s obligations.

They shared that applying for claims was generally smooth. Though, many clients recommended reaching out through the website’s live chat, as the company’s WhatsApp and email channels tend to yield slower responses.

A few holders also experienced glitches in the system when they paid for their premiums.
