The 8 Best Picnic Spots in Singapore: Have a feast in fresh air!
I’ve always loved picnics, and when my husband and I started our little family, I made it a point to plan one at least twice a month. There’s just something special about eating your favourite meals and enjoying quality time together over delicious food.
And let’s not forget—the right location can elevate the experience with stunning views that perfectly complement the laid-back vibe.
If you’re looking to plan your next outing, here are my absolute favourite picnic spots in Singapore!
East Coast Park

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking where to put down your picnic blanket at East Coast Park. The massive 15-kilometre park offers endless spots to enjoy a day outdoors, especially when I’m hosting a simple picnic.
What I love most is how the park offers different vibes depending on your mood. You can dive into the lively atmosphere with kids laughing and playgrounds buzzing, or find a quieter corner by the beach.
Tips:
- Forgot to pack enough snacks? No problem! The nearby food courts have you covered with everything from quick bites to full meals, so you can fuel up without missing a beat.
- If you’re after a truly tranquil moment, I highly recommend heading over to the peaceful beach near the Bougainvillea Garden. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, clear your mind, and just enjoy the view.

Who doesn’t want to spend an afternoon enjoying a picnic in the city’s sole UNESCO World Heritage Site? If you’re all about nature, flowers, and quiet scenery, I highly recommend packing your basket and heading to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
The slopes and lush lawns of Palm Valley are perfect for picnics because it’s surrounded by trees. Plus, the grass is well-kept and maintained, so there’s no need to worry about uneven seating and food set-up when you’re on the ground!
Tips:
- A great tip for music lovers: head to the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage at the foot of the slope, where you can enjoy regular live performances, including the popular Symphony in the Park series by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
- For the nearest restrooms, head to the Cool House near the Palm Valley Gate. You can also find toilets at the visitor centre.

My children love HortPark, not just for the gardens and interactive tours, but also because the lawns are great for picnics. I usually pack them a few snacks whenever we visit, but I sometimes pack a whole picnic lunch if the weather permits!
The best spot to host a picnic is at HortLawn, near the entrance of the garden complex. It’s super convenient with nearby restrooms and facilities, plus there’s plenty of space and a bit of shade to keep you comfortable.
Tips:
- Don’t miss out on the park’s free monthly tours! They usually offer them during their monthly Gardeners’ Day Out events, but you’ll have to secure your slot in advance. Learn more and book tours here.
- If you want, the park also offers paid guided tours across its different themed gardens. There’s a limit of 15 people per tour group, with separate fees (usually less than $10 per person). You’ll need to secure your slots in advance via email though. I recommend doing so one month in advance if you’re bringing your whole family!

If you want to host a picnic but love scenic sea views, then you should lay your blanket down at the Marina Barrage. This reservoir and dam are smartly designed to accommodate pedestrians looking for a green space to chill and relax.
It’s even cooler knowing that the picnic area sits on a rooftop. It’s a sprawling grass lawn that gently slopes upwards, forming the roof of the Sustainable Singapore Gallery.
Tips:
- One of the most popular activities to do here besides picnicking is kite flying. The winds here are known to be very suitable for flying all sorts of kites, and I highly recommend doing it during mid to late afternoon. This is when it’s not too hot and the winds are stronger!
- If you don’t have a kite, you can buy one from the uncle who is manning the small gift shop by the Sustainable Singapore Gallery. The uncle there knows a lot about fishing too, so don’t be shy and strike up a chat if you want to learn tricks!
Jurong Lake Gardens

Jurong Lake Gardens holds a special place in my heart as a picnic spot. I love spreading a blanket out on The Lakeside Field, where the vast greenery stretches endlessly, or finding a quiet corner at The Oval, surrounded by serene garden views.
What makes it extra memorable are the little adventures you can have before your picnic. My kids adore the Forest Ramble playground, and watching them climb and explore always brings a smile.
On warmer days, Clusia Cove’s water play area is a lifesaver. It’s hard to resist joining them sometimes!
Tips:
- Plan your visit early in the morning to enjoy the cooler weather and take in the stunning scenery. With the addition of the Japanese and Chinese Gardens, there’s even more to explore! If you’re bringing kids along, consider packing a scooter or stroller to make it easier to navigate this expansive area.
- If it starts to rain, head over to the covered rest areas scattered across the park. I recommend setting up your picnic near one if the weather starts to go sour when you arrive!
Sengkang Riverside Park

Operating Hours: Open 24/7

Tucked away in the Northeast, Sengkang Riverside Park feels like a hidden oasis along Sungei Punggol. Whenever I visit, I’m always struck by the peaceful expanse of grasslands that seem perfect for a picnic in the afternoon.
I gravitate toward the mini ponds near the Visitors Centre and the main car park. There’s just something cosy about the shaded spots and gently sloping ground, making it the perfect place to stretch out, relax, and take in the beauty around you.
Tips:
- Don’t forget to pack bug spray. It’s a riverside park, so you might find a lot of bugs and insects swarming near the water. I suggest staying a little further away from the water if you’re sensitive to bug bites!
- The whole park is wheelchair and stroller-accessible, except the pond areas.
- Your dogs are allowed to join you at the picnic. Just make sure you keep them on a leash at all times. If you need to let them loose for a bit, there’s a dog run available near the Sengkang Floating Wetland!

If you’re craving gorgeous views and a cool sea breeze, Changi Beach Park is worth the trip. I love how the BBQ pits and playground make it perfect for both relaxing and family fun.
Aside from the beachside views, there are also a ton of activities you can do to keep yourself or your kids occupied during your picnic. Cycling, swimming, frisbee, skating, and beach volleyball are just a few of the most popular things you can do here.
Tips:
- I usually grab some tasty bites from Changi Village Hawker Centre or Little Island Brewing Company before heading over. It’s the ultimate way to elevate a picnic (and also omits the hassle of lugging a heavy basket of food if both your hands are full).
- In case you need to rinse after taking a dip in the sea, there are shower stalls available for use in the toilets. Just note that you’ll need to bring your own toiletries!
- Don’t forget to secure a rental permit before using a BBQ pit. You can request a permit in this portal!
Palawan Beach

Another fantastic beachside picnic spot I recommend is Palawan Beach—especially if you’re planning a romantic date by the shore. The soft sand, clear waters, and sunset views create the perfect setting for quality time with your special someone.
If you’re up for more than just lounging, there’s plenty to keep you entertained with watersports and beachside activities.
One of my favourite things about Palawan Beach is the suspension bridge. It’s such a treat to stroll across and explore the charming little islet right off the main beach.
Tips:
- The islet doesn’t have restroom facilities, so be sure to use the ones on the main beach before making your way over.
- Left your sunscreen at home? No worries! You’ll find a handy sunscreen dispenser by the lifeguard post on the beach. Simply follow the instructions on the sign, and you’ll be set to stay protected from the sun all day long.
- There’s a 7-Eleven nearby if you need to replenish your supplies or snacks. It can get pretty hot during the day here, so buy or bring water and hydrate!
