Find bliss in the city with the 5 best Japanese onsens in Singapore!

You know what’s bliss? Sinking into a soothing bath and feeling the stress melt away, like butter on warm toast.

That’s exactly how I feel every time I experience a Japanese onsen. Now, I’ll admit, I haven’t been to an actual onsen in Japan (yet!), but I’ve found some incredible spots in the city that come pretty darn close to the real deal.

If you’re hunting for the best Japanese onsen spas in Singapore, here are my top picks that’ll have you saying, “Ahhh, this is the life.”

Ikeda Spa

When I think about Japanese onsens, Ikeda Spa immediately comes to mind. One reason is that it’s the first hinoki onsen in the city and also the very spa I tried for the first time.

Hinoki onsens are made out of Japanese cypress which is known for its soothing fragrance and natural antibacterial properties. When the tubs are filled with warm water, the wood infuses it with oils that nourish and cleanse the skin.

Tips:

  • Be sure to visit Ikeda Spa’s website to catch their latest promotions! First-time visitors often get treated to a complimentary onsen bath session, making it an ideal chance to surprise your dad or mom with a relaxing experience if they haven’t tried it yet.
  • At this spa, you share the tubs with other people during your scheduled time slot. For those who prefer a more private soak, the spa offers individual baths, ensuring you can enjoy tranquillity alone (although they’re way pricier!).

If you love Japanese onsen baths but also crave relaxing Thai spa treatments, then you’re in for an absolute treat at Yunomori Onsen and Spa. You can book the onsen and spa treatments separately, but I won’t stop you if you decide to do both.

The onsen itself is a modern haven, enriched with essential oils and magnesium sulfate for a natural detox that feels like hitting the reset button. Take your pick from various options—jet baths, hot baths, cold baths, and more. It’s a bath lover’s paradise!

Tips:

  • I highly recommend jumping into the sauna and steam rooms after taking a dip inside the onsen pools. Unfortunately, the sauna rooms are only available for men. If you’re bringing your children with you, make sure to keep them next to you at all times inside the spa.
  • Your day pass ticket already includes a set of towels, toiletries, and a yukata. Note that private bookings are currently unavailable, so expect to share the pools with other guests. If you wish to secure the pools when it’s less crowded, I highly recommend booking at least two days in advance on a weekday!

Joya Onsen Cafe

Website

Joya Onsen Café is your ultimate urban escape, combining rejuvenating onsen baths, indulgent spa treatments, and a cosy tatami-style café serving authentic Japanese bites. It’s like booking a mini-vacation without leaving the city.

Choose between their two main baths: a shared public bath or a more intimate private one. Both are warmed to 39 to 41°C and infused with tea leaves for a luxurious soak that pampers your skin with antioxidants while leaving you glowing and refreshed.

Tips:

  • The spa offers promotions for private onsen bookings if you schedule a visit between Tuesday and Thursday. You can get up to 15% off on your total bill. You can book directly via phone for quicker processing! Learn more about the other promotions here.
  • If you’re a gym buff and want to squeeze in a workout, you can book the Gym and Onsen package that gives you all-day access to the spa’s partner gym (Anytime Fitness), saunas, and onsen baths. Note that the gym is accessible from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm only for spa guests!

While their onsen bath isn’t their flagship service, Elements Wellness Spa offers it as another way you can relax and unwind to get away from the city hustle. Here, you get to soak into relaxing waters inside a beautifully handcrafted koyamaki wood tub.

The water is also ion-charged and infused with the natural oils and healing properties of the wood. It is said that a soak in the spa’s koyamaki onsen will enhance circulation, alleviate pain and aches, and improve your overall mood!

Tips:

  • I highly recommend pairing your onsen experience with the Crystal Cold Shower and steam room. Not only will you maximise the amenities included in your ticket but also benefit from the many healing and rejuvenating properties of the services!
  • Note that disposable underwear will be provided by the spa during your onsen experience. If you aren’t comfortable wearing that, you are free to bring your own swimsuit to the spa and use that instead.

g.spa Singapore

Media from gspasingapore

Address: 102 Guillemard Rd, #02-02, KFF Badminton Arena
Contact Details: +65 6280 8988
Operating Hours: Open 24/7
Pricing: Starting from $80 per person
Website

What sets g.spa apart from other onsen spas in the city is that it stays open 24/7. I don’t think I know other spas that welcome guests until the wee hours of the morning, so if you’re looking for a super late-night soak, this is the place to be.

They offer hot and cold onsens, with packages that include a full-body massage, scrub, hair treatment, and even facials to pair with your soak. Moreover, there are plenty of food options to keep your tummy full during your stay!

Tips:

  • You can actually book an entire room if you plan on spending a few more hours inside the spa. After your bath, you can book either a private room or a couple room where you can get your massage in your very own space. I recommend doing this with a significant other, though, as booking a private room is pricey.
  • You don’t need to book a slot to enter the spa. Walk-ins are accepted. However, onsen packages will need to be booked at least a day or two before your scheduled visit. Note that walk-ins will be subject to the availability and capacity of the spa facilities!
