When I was a kid, I only ever got to watch animals through the television and more recently, through the Internet. So imagine how pleased I was when I visited Bird Paradise with my family to get up close and personal with local wildlife!
What we liked most about our visit, however, was how interactive and educational most of the activities at Bird Paradise were. So, let me tell you about our unforgettable experience at Bird Paradise and the things to do when you visit this tourist spot!

How to Get There
By Subway: To get from Changi Airport to Bird Paradise, you can take the subway and then transfer for a short bus ride. Take the train going to Khatib Station, Johor Bahru before transferring to the bus going to Bird Paradise.
In total, this subway and bus combination will take you around 1 hour and 9 minutes (with the subway ride around 56 minutes and the bus ride around 13 minutes).
We recommend that you go for this option if you want to get to the site quickly and relatively cheaply at just SGD 6.11.
By Bus: You can also take the bus from Changi Airport to Bird Paradise. Just ride the bus at Terminal 1 and get off at Yishun Station before transferring to the next bus at Opp Yishun Station.
From Yishun, take a short 6-minute bus ride to Opp Khatib Station before transferring to another bus at the Khatib MRT Station. Ride this bus for another 13 minutes before getting off at Bird Paradise.
This might seem like an inconvenient option with multiple bus transfers (2 transfers to be exact), but it’s still a relatively cheap option at just SGD 6.82.
By Taxi: Taking a taxi to Bird Paradise is the fastest travel option for you from Changi Airport, but it will also be the most expensive one. The taxi ride will only take you around 26 minutes but it will cost you around SGD 28.
While this is an expensive choice, we recommend that you go this route if you’re travelling with family or with a large group or if you’re simply in a hurry to get to Bird Paradise.
What to Do in Bird Paradise Singapore
1. Reconnect with nature and feed animals
Our family always has a soft spot for animals, so a visit to Bird Paradise was definitely a treat! We liked that the park staff helped us time the feeding just right, ensuring that the birds were at their most active during the session.
We were swarmed by tons of starlings once they found our true intentions—to fill them with park-provided treats! Once done, we also tried out their pelican feeding session, which was fascinating.
Pro Tip: Bird feeding sessions usually last 15 minutes and are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Hence, we strongly recommend that you book your slots in advance. |
2. Learn more about animals at keeper talks
During our trip to Bird Paradise, we saw an amazing array of birds like the Papauan hornbill, black-faced spoonbill, and milky stork. There were bird areas with keepers watching over them.
These keepers gave talks to tourists, and thanks to them, we learned a ton of new info about the birds under their care. Check out their songbird, hornbill, penguin, and macaw keeper talks!
Pro Tip: Bird keepers have scheduled talks, so check their website before your visit to choose a session you want to attend. |
3. Watch the kids as they play and splash
Travelling to Bird Paradise was also a fantastic experience for our kids thanks to the different play areas onsite.
The weather was a bit hot during our trip here. Luckily, the Egg Splash wet play zones ensured that the young ones stayed fresh and cool while enjoying the shallow pools and water slides.
We also got to watch other parents just enjoying the view of their little children playing with the other young guests at the Treetop Play. With its bouncy trampolines and sturdy nets for walking and climbing, we’re certain the kids had a blast!
Pro Tip: There are a couple of reminders for both parents and kids who want to enjoy these play areas in Bird Paradise. These include no wearing of footwear at Egg Splash and the supervision of children at all times. |
4. Go on a wildlife tour
If you want a more personal experience, you can also try their private wildlife tour of Bird Paradise. You get a wildlife guide who will introduce you to the different birds of the park.
We saw one group about to leave for one of these tours, and we heard them talk excitedly about the sensational star of the park, Sally the Hornbill. With Sally’s majestic look and royal swagger, she’s definitely a must-visit!
Pro Tip: Rates for this tour are different depending on whether you’re on general admission or if you are a Wildlife or Friends of Wildlife holder. Check out their website to learn more about these discounted rates. |

Penguin Cove Restaurant is another restaurant you need to visit if you love adorable penguins.
We filled our tummies with delectable food items from their buffet spread, but what really caught our attention were the penguins swimming around the dining area inside their indoor aquarium!
They also have a ton of options at the buffet stations, but we mostly enjoyed the finger foods. Their premium cold cuts were salty and spicy and tasted amazing paired with their penguin-shaped cheese slices!

Variety is the name of the game here at Food Central. The interior has an industrial and modern feel and is spacious enough that we didn’t feel cramped while enjoying our meal.
Order their chicken rice meals, meatball noodle soup, and kiddie spaghetti before you head on out to your walking tour of Bird Paradise.

This kid-themed cafe is one you need to check out if you’re visiting Bird Paradise with your young ones. Huge colourful eggs decorated the interiors and facade!
Some of their best-sellers include their spaghetti and pizzas. We tried the mushroom spaghetti and liked how they added poached eggs and cherry tomatoes to it, giving it a unique mouth feel and slightly sweet taste!

Great views and fantastic meals are the order of the day here at Crimson Restaurant. We were enticed by its sleek and modern interiors and large windows giving us a great view of the park!
We ordered the 3 course set lunch that included starters, main course, dessert, and our choice of beverage.
Among the main course items, we liked their plant-based burger because despite it being a vegetarian option, the patty was extremely juicy and still tasted like premium beef!

Bird Paradise isn’t just about penguins, and the Egg Splash Cafe and Shop is here to prove it! Aside from having a light snack at this cafe, we saw a ton of chick and egg-inspired merchandise.
Some of these merchandise include bags and fisherman’s hats (with chicken designs, of course), which we think were good value for money considering the quality of these items and their uniqueness.
