Kabayan Restaurant is renowned for its genuinely traditional Filipino cuisine, a fact attested to by its numerous loyal customers.

Similar to a hawker stall, the restaurant presents its array of dishes in a glass case, offering a selection of over 15 options, ranging from lechon (roasted pig) to pork adobo (braised pork).

Additionally, they provide set meals like tapsilog, a generous serving of garlic fried rice, fried egg, and meat.

Pro Tip:
Since Kabayan Restaurant displays its food options on trays, it’s likely that your order will be cold once served. Fret not. Simply ask the servers to heat up your order before taking it to your table!

LUCI’s Kitchen only offers a selection of six dishes when you dine in, but the limited menu is more than enough to give you an introduction to genuine Filipino cuisine.

If you’re looking for a comforting dish to warm your soul, try the acclaimed beef goto, a Filipino congee prepared with beef tripe, or the pork ribs kaldereta, a pork stew made with tomato sauce and vegetables.

For something to cool you off, try the halo-halo, a Filipino dessert consisting of shaved ice with sweet bean paste, mixed fruit, milk, and ice cream.

Pro Tip:
Luci’s Kitchen has a small dining area, which often gets full during lunch hours. It’s best to drop by for an early lunch or dinner to avoid the crowd.

At Inasal Restaurant, it’s no surprise that the standout dish is the classic Filipino grilled chicken or chicken inasal, renowned for its delightful aroma, well-marinated flavours, and juicy texture.

While visiting, be sure not to miss out on indulging in desserts like leche flan, often referred to as the Filipino equivalent of creme brûlée!

If you have to choose just one non-chicken dish, opt for the famous lechon kawali, the Filipino take on the crispy roast pork belly, traditionally reserved for special family gatherings or holidays.

Pro Tip:
Inasal Restaurant also runs a bakery, selling different types of Filipino bread like pan de sal (Filipino bread rolls), monay (sweet bread loaf), and ensaymada (bread bun with cheese and cream).

Lucky Chicken Rice, widely regarded for serving the finest chicken rice in Orchard, stands as a consistently dependable eatery in Lucky Plaza.

While the boneless chicken rice may not be the cheapest option in the area, it offers a relatively affordable dining experience by Orchard Road standards, and the delectable chicken paired with fragrant rice justifies the cost.

If you’re not a fan of rice, opt for the chicken hor fun, where the rice is substituted with hor fun, providing an opportunity to savour the flavorful chicken alongside silky flat noodles.

Pro Tip:
If you’re not a fan of spicy food, you can request for the chilli sauce to be served on the side.

Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut is renowned for its superb crispy fried duck. A noteworthy dish is the original crispy fried duck rice, showcasing a deep-fried duck thigh adorned with a generous layer of flour crumbs.

If you have a preference for grilled duck, the grilled duck rice is also available as an alternative. Pair your duck with a piping-hot bowl of oxtail soup and ask for lots of chilli sauce to go with it (this is a recommended combo, but you do you!).

Pro Tip:
You’ll need to order and pay at the counter before you can reserve a table at Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut.

Don’t try to skip the line and have someone sit at a table or chope it. It may be frowned upon by the regulars there!

Operating in six locations nationwide, Ayam Penyet Ria has achieved nationwide acclaim, and it all began at the original Lucky Plaza outlet.

The ayam penyet set stands out as a perennial favourite, featuring a generously sized smashed chicken thigh adorned with a crispy batter topping.

Ayam Penyet Ria is not solely celebrated for its chicken offerings; the bebek bakar sambal matah Bali set showcases smoky flame-grilled duck paired with flavorful Balinese chilli.

Pro Tip:
The spiciness of the sambal (chilli) offered at Ayam Penyet RIA is quite intense. If you have a low tolerance for spiciness, it’s advisable to inform the waitstaff to provide you with smaller portions or exclude the chilli entirely.

A constant hit at Lucky Plaza, My Favourite Cafe Yong Tau Foo lives up to its name. Lunchtime patrons are accustomed to enduring a 30-minute wait for a bowl of their renowned soup and yong tau foo.

Yong tau foo is basically stuffed tofu with fish paste or ground meat, often served as toppings to soup or noodle dishes. The stall’s soup base is a bit savoury and sweet and isn’t super-laden with MSG, which makes it a hit among regulars there.

Pro Tip:
Tables are very limited next to the stall, so if you’re okay with waiting in line for a seat, expect to share the table with strangers. Otherwise, you can order their yong tau foo and soup for takeout!

Tapa, distinct from Spanish tapas, is a Filipino dish featuring cured meats that are expertly stir-fried or grilled. Tapa King offers a commendable rendition of this dish, despite being a fast-food chain.

The Tapa King set includes the essential tapa beef stir-fry, pickled vegetables, and a sunny-side-up egg. It’s what Filipinos would call a classic and hearty breakfast meal, but can also be enjoyed for lunch and dinner.

Pro Tip:
Tapa King serves their tapa sets with a bowl of sinigang, a Filipino sour soup usually made with tamarind. The soup is an acquired taste, and if you’re not a fan of it, simply tell the servers at the counter to omit it from your tray.

Lucky Plaza Bazaar, on Lucky Plaza’s 4th floor, has a large collection of vintage items like shoes or bags for as little as $3.

You’ll find a selection of clothes, swimwear, and bottoms, with the space recently expanded to accommodate a growing crowd seeking affordable and vintage treasures, contributing to its increasing popularity.

It’s so popular that, in order to crowd control better, the bazaar implemented a rule that only visitors with ID cards ending in odd numbers are restricted from entering on odd dates, while those with even-numbered endings are prohibited on even dates.

Pro Tip:
For a more enjoyable experience, it’s advisable to visit later in the afternoon. On weekdays, particularly at 9:00 am, it’s best to go early in the morning.
