Secret Fishing Spots In Singapore Avid Anglers Swear By

My dad’s patience is legendary, especially considering how my impatience tended to surface during our fishing expeditions when I was younger.

Now that I’m older and can fish on my own, I can’t help but think about my dad whenever I set out to the fishing spots he took me to. I may not have inherited his patience, but I did get his love for fishing.

So, if you’re looking to pick up fishing as a hobby (or work on your patience), here’s a list of the best secret fishing spots in Singapore that avid anglers (AKA my dad) swear by.

D’Best Fishing Pond

Address: 90 Pasir Ris Central, Pasir Ris Town Park (Google Maps)

Type of Fishing Spot: Freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, prawning

Contact Details: +65 6583 9030

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Website

D’Best Fishing Pond is one of my top recommendations for anyone who wants to fish for the first time. If fishing by the sea is too intimidating, this fishing pond complex in the middle of Pasir Ris Town Park may be just your cup of tea.

The ponds offer anglers of all skill levels to fish freshwater and saltwater species starting at $66 a person. There are three main fishing ponds and one indoor prawning pond. All are open 24/7.

You can catch groupers, pomfrets and more during your session, with the option to scale and de-gut your fresh catch for an additional fee of up to $3.5 per kilogramme. This way, you can take your fish and prawns home to cook and eat!

Tips:

The Premium Pond is a catch-and-release pond, so don’t try your luck at bringing home what you catch there.

While the main pond is open 24/7, the Premium and Pro Ponds are not. You can only fish during designated fishing hours for these ponds and are required to book a minimum of three hours to fish here.

You can check out the schedules and rates here

You can fish at the main pond as early as 7:00 am and standard fees apply then. Fishing during the weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Public Holidays) has a $10 surcharge.

D’Best Fishing Pond doesn’t provide bait, but you can purchase an array of them starting at $5 per 100 grams.

MacRitchie Reservoir Park Fishing Grounds

Address: Lornie Rd (Google Maps)

Type of Fishing Spot: Freshwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Whenever I think about wetlands, boardwalks, nature, and suspended bridges, I think of MacRitchie Reservoir. And whenever my dad thinks about MacRitchie Reservoir, he thinks about the fishing grounds in the beautiful reservoir park.

I cherish countless memories of fishing with my dad at MacRitchie Reservoir, often complemented by leisurely strolls along the water’s edge and admiring the surrounding lush greenery. Surprisingly, many people are unaware that fishing is permitted there!

The fishing grounds are located near Paddle Lodge (the place where you rent canoes and kayaks). You can catch a couple of snakehead Murrells, tilapias, catfishes, and threadfin acara here, with many anglers releasing them back into the waters.

Tips:

The fishing grounds near the Paddle Lodge are the only legally designated fishing spot within MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

There are ropes that mark the boundaries where you’re allowed to fish, and fishing elsewhere is illegal and subject to penalties.

You cannot use fishing rods exceeding six feet in length. This is to ensure that you can keep rods at a safe distance from the people canoeing or kayaking nearby.

You cannot bring home the fish you catch at the fishing grounds. The fishing grounds are only for recreational purposes!

Kelong Walk at Changi Boardwalk

From angleronfire

Address: Changi Boardwalk (Google Maps)

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Website

Changi Boardwalk is divided into 6 different sections, and if you’re looking for fishing spots, my best recommendation is the one at Kelong Walk. Many anglers favour this spot among the rest of the boardwalk because of its extension toward the sea.

This gives anglers better reach and depth to catch all sorts of saltwater fish like catfish, but some people are lucky enough to catch squid as well! If you end up catching smaller fish, I highly suggest releasing them back into the sea, so that they can grow bigger.

It’s usually crowded here on weekends, but despite that, I still like to hang out by the two big shelters located along Kelong Walk. Even if it’s to wait for fishing space or to beat the harsh rays of the sun, the shelter really helps anglers stay comfortable.

Tips:

You can bring your own bait to Changi Boardwalk. In case you run out of bait, there’s a small tackle shop located along Changi Village Road, just east of the boardwalk.

While you’re still free to fish when it rains, the tides can go up really high, making the boardwalk unsafe for pedestrians and anglers.

The best time to fish here is at night time when the tides are high and the air is breezy. The chilly air makes fishing a lot more comfortable along Kelong Walk!

Punggol Point Jetty

From singaporetouristpass

Address: Punggol Promenade Nature Walk (Google Maps)

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Website

My uncle and dad often visit Punggol Point Park, sometimes bringing their fishing rods to Punggol Point Jetty. It’s a lesser-known fishing spot, perfect for anglers seeking solitude away from crowds.

One of the best features of this secret fishing spot is the breathtaking views of the sea and Coney Island. My dad used to say that he’d sometimes forget he was fishing because he’d stare into the horizon as the sun went down.

Besides the views, a few fish you can catch here are groupers, stingrays, catfishes, snappers, spotted sicklefish, and barramundi. I recommend using prawn cubes as bait (they’re known to be favourites among the fish there!).

Tips:

If you want a fishing spot within Punggol Point where you can leisurely sit anywhere, there’s a small stretch of beach just to the left of the jetty.

I recommend fishing here in the evenings, though, because there aren’t a lot of shaded areas and the sand can get hot to sit on during the day.

Aside from fishing, you can also catch some crabs using traps along the boardwalk. It’s a little walk away from the jetty, but you can fish while waiting for the traps to work!

Sembawang Park Jetty

From singaporelocalguides

Address: Beaulieu Rd, Sembawang Park (Google Maps)

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Sembawang Park was one of my favourite parks during my childhood, but when I grew older, I started heading back there for fishing. I would find anglers casually casting their rods and crab traps from the jetty, so I decided to join in and fish here sometimes.

My favourite thing about fishing at Sembawang Park Jetty is the sunrise. You get awesome views of the sun here, amplified by the regularly calm waters (which actually makes fishing a breeze).

There are a lot more people catching crabs here than fish, but you’ll be spoiled by the number of species swimming by the jetty. There are golden snappers, groupers, barramundi, squid, stingrays, and catfishes you can catch if you’re patient!

Tips:

To bring your fishing escapade at Sembawang Park Jetty to full circle, I recommend eating freshly cooked seafood at the Beaulieu House. It’s the old colonial house just across from the jetty, so it’ll be hard to miss it!

The nearest car park to the jetty is along Sembawang Road, just by the northern entrance.

Sometimes, there are vendors selling ice cream by the car park, so don’t miss your chance to grab one when it gets too hot out while you fish!

Kranji Reservoir Park

From msesingapore

Address: Kranji Wy (Google Maps

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

Website

There are two main fishing spots in Kranji Reservoir Park: Kranji Reservoir Fishing Grounds A and B. These two spots are located across from each other stretching Kranji Way, but I prefer fishing at Fishing Ground B more.

These fishing grounds are the sole designated spots within the reservoir, conveniently near Kranji Coastal Nature Park. Remember that these areas are open waters, so, during rainy spells, tides may rise significantly, potentially flooding the shores.

The fishing grounds are also popular spots for picnics, so don’t hesitate to bring family and friends with you while you fish, particularly at Fishing Grounds B. Plus, you get awesome views of the Kranji Dam and the Johor Straits from there!

Tips:

Be careful when fishing near the tall grass. They’re not always maintained and they could cover up the border, causing people or rods to fall off into the water.

Stick to the shelters, benches, or the nearby park if you want to picnic while fishing!

The waters and park grounds can get really hot during the day. I recommend coming by as soon as the park opens (7:00 am) or late into the evening.

Since you’ll be fishing at open reservoir waters, you can only use artificial bait. If you don’t you could get fined up to $3,000. Yikes!

Labrador Nature Reserve Jetty

Address: Western end of Labrador Park (Google Maps

Contact Details: +65 1800 471 7300

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm

Website

Whenever my dad hinted at a fishing trip to Labrador Jetty, I could practically see him gearing up with his top-notch rods, choice bait, and his lucky fishing hat. It’s like a magnet for fishing fanatics and professional anglers.

And my dad? Well, let’s just say he’s always ready to reel in those legendary catches and share tales that grow bigger with each telling.

As for me, I go to Labrador Jetty not just for the fish but also for the scenic views of Sentosa Island and the sea. This fishing spot is not really beginner-friendly, but my dad would never give up until he caught a mighty cobia (he never did).

Tips:

The fishing spot at Labrador Jetty is rocky, so fishing here can be pretty difficult unless you have good rods and lines. They can easily get stuck on the rocks, making it hard to reel in fish, so make sure to stock up on extra ones!

You can only fish at designated areas within the jetty. It’s best to come by in the morning to snag a spot before anyone else does!

Woodlands Waterfront Park Jetty

Address: Admiralty Rd W (Google Maps)

Contact Details: +65 1800 471 7300

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Website

Woodlands Waterfront Park Jetty is the longest jetty in Singapore and a prime spot for anglers to catch barracudas. The jetty extends out into the Johor Strait, almost right across from Malaysia (you can actually see the buildings of Johor Bahru from there).

Sadly, you can’t really fish out at the very end of the jetty, but the barracudas still swim by the middle section. Still, the jetty is very long, so there’s a lot of space for you to set up your chairs, fishing rods, and even a cooler box by the railings.

If you’re feeling hungry, there’s a floating seafood restaurant that opens at noon. They mainly serve halal food there, and I super recommend stopping by if you want to eat some of the freshest seafood dishes in the country!

Tips:

There are monkeys that occasionally drop by the jetty, so make sure you keep your bait close to you and away from any prying hands.

The waters surrounding Woodlands Waterfront Park Jetty are shallow, so I recommend using floater tackle instead of sinkers to catch schools of fish nearby.

(This is a good way to kill time while waiting for barracudas and barramundi to take your bait.)

Kallang Riverside Park

From exploresingapore.sg

Address: Cnr Kallang Road and, Crawford St (Google Maps)

Contact Details: +65 1800 471 7300

Type of Fishing Spot: Freshwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Website

If you’re looking for a fishing spot in Central Singapore, you’ll be spoilt for choice. If you visit Kallang Riverside Park, there are three main fishing zones where you can catch freshwater fish like hound needlefish, peacock bass, pompano, and halfbeaks.

What’s great about fishing at Kallang Riverside Park is that you don’t have to go all the way to the edges of Singapore just to catch fresh fish. The water at Kallang River and the Marina Reservoir isn’t the clearest, but you’ll still get great chances of catching fish.

My favourite fishing zone is Fishing Zone 2 mainly because it’s closer to the main Kallang Riverside Park complex. Amenities like toilets and picnic grounds are better in this part of the reservoir, so consider setting up your fishing rods there!

Tips:

Since the fishing zones are along the Kallang River and Marina Reservoir, you can only use artificial bait here.

You can use lures, but you might have better luck at using artificial bait to catch some bass.

Do note that you can only catch and release fish here. You could be fined if anyone caught you bringing the fish home!

The cleanest waters are usually at the Marina Reservoir PUB Fishing site, the third fishing zone along Kallang Riverside Park. Start your fishing trip there and work your way up the Kallang River!

Bedok Jetty

From ajvmfishing

Address: East Coast Park Service Road (Bedok Jetty

Type of Fishing Spot: Saltwater fishing

Opening Hours: Open 24/7

Although not exactly a secret fishing spot in Singapore, Bedok Jetty remains one of the most loved spots among anglers across all skill levels on the island. My dad used to take me here when I was little, and visiting it today brings back all the memories.

Bedok Jetty sits off the coast of East Coast Park on a stone pier which used to be a military jetty. To get to the best fishing areas on the jetty, you’ll need to walk 300 metres down the pier (its length actually makes it the longest jetty in Singapore).

One of the reasons why my dad loved fishing here is that you can do both deep-water and shallow fishing. A few notable species you can catch here are the Rosy jewfish, Dorab wolf-herring, barracuda sharks, and stingrays.

Tips:

Bedok Jetty is open 24/7, but I recommend dropping by early in the morning instead of in the afternoon to avoid crowds.

Fishing in the morning also gives you chilly weather and some quiet downtime while the rest of East Coast Park wakes up for the day!
