Reach new heights with these 12 best rock climbing places in Singapore

Singapore may not have Yosemite National Park’s natural rock formations, but we have some awesome rock-climbing gyms! I’ve tried massive climbing walls and top-notch facilities which are ideal for both newbies (like me!) and seasoned climbers.

You’ll learn some of their names and locations in this guide along with other useful information—so get ready for a gripping read.

My beginner’s bouldering class at Kinetics Climbing was thorough and informative. We started with learning how to fall safely and progressed to exploring various beginner routes.

We were taught everything from proper gear usage (a well-fitted harness is a must!) and relying on a good belayer to prevent accidents. We learned that a belayer’s role is to guide the climber’s fall, helping to ensure they land safely on the crash pad.

It was a pleasant experience, and we could climb on our own after the lesson!

Pro-tip:

  • The instructors welcome all questions, so don’t be afraid to ask away.

I find Upwall Climbing to be great for kids and beginner adults alike. The equipment is well-maintained, and you can walk in without a booking. Plus, prices are also lower when you purchase as a group.

It’s perfect for solo climbers with plenty of auto-belay lanes. These are mechanical systems designed to automatically take up the slack as a climber ascends the wall, excellent for quick sessions and those climbing without a partner.

Pro-tip:

  • The gym staff also responds quickly via WhatsApp at +65-80287028.

Climb Central

Climb Central caters to all climbers, from beginners to experts. I’ve always found its equipment and walls to be well-maintained, and like that personal climbing gear is welcome.

First-timers pay S$25, including S$7 for shoe and harness rental, so if you have your own, that’s a bit of money saved.

It’s important to book slots three days in advance on the website to secure a schedule, though. Evenings and weekends can be crowded, requiring some wait time.
