Pros
- Delicious baked goods, especially the croissant
- Good coffee
- Reasonably priced menu items
Cons
- Packed during peak hours
- Staff gets cranky on busy hours
Judging by the perpetual crowd inside one of Tiong Bahru’s shops, their baked goods are indeed a hit.
I, for one, am not exempt from the Tiong Bahru hype, and I love their brie and roasted mushroom croissant.
It’s soft, buttery, savoury, and perfectly flaky. Pair it with their coffee, and voila, you have the perfect breakfast, brunch, and afternoon snack.
The other pastries I tried, ranging from sweet to savoury, were all tasty, and they were all reasonably priced for their quality.
I highly advise that you stop by Tiong Bahru before or after peak hours because, as I said, it gets pretty packed. On some days, people even queue!
The servers can also get pretty cranky during busy hours.

Pros
- Breads are tasty, especially their flavoured sourdoughs
- Reasonably priced
- Sells cheese and specialty butter
Cons
- Some sourdough flavours are only available on specific dates
- Staff isn’t welcoming
The Bakehaus’ dense and scrumptious-looking bread makes one abandon their fear of carbs. Even our health-nut friend and her certified gym bro boyfriend couldn’t resist the charm of this bakery’s baked delights, especially their sourdoughs and bagels.
We ordered our friends’ recommendations and were mindblown by their green olive za’atar sourdough, which was packed with nutty and salty flavours.
Unfortunately, this particular flavour of sourdough is only available on the weekend.
Their bagels, on the other hand, were just plain. You can elevate them though by adding smoked salmon and cream cheese on top.
Bakehaus’ products were also surprisingly affordable except for sourdough and brioche.
They also sell all sorts of cheeses and specialty butter.
We hope that by the time we go to Bakehaus for our next purchase, the staff manning the cash register is more amiable than the last one who was frowning the whole time and barely said a word to us.

Pros
- Specializes in confectionaries and pastries
- Makes tasty and flavourful cakes
Cons
- Items are relatively pricey
- Shop tends to be packed and can be loud during peak hours
If you’re a sweet tooth like me, you’re going to love Flor Patisserie’s delightful assortment of pastries and confectionaries.
Their hazelnut opera and yuzu strawberry tart are my favourites at the moment, but last year, I was addicted to their chocolate banana almond pie and signature roll.
The signature roll, in particular, is made with brown sugar sponge cake and is stuffed with palm sugar-infused cream. It’s a tad sweeter than their other confections, which makes it a perfect tea-time treat.
Now, considering that this bakery uses a lot of fresh ingredients to make its baked goods, it’s reasonable that the goods are pricier than your usual bakery.
However, they’re truly worth your money.
Furthermore, I prefer ordering from Flor Patisserie via their website because their shop gets packed and noisy during peak hours.

Pros
- Their viennoiseries have a perfectly flaky exterior but are soft on the inside
- Affordable baked goods
Cons
- Limited selection of baked goods
- Their gourmet menu items are nothing special
Though Bread & Hearth’s menu items are quite limited, their quality and flavour can make one come back for more.
Viennoiseries (French baked goods) are their specialties, and our coworker found their palmier biscuit and pain au chocolat terrific.
We tried it ourselves too. The palmier biscuit was soft on the inside and perfectly flaky on the outside. It also pairs well with coffee.
Bread & Hearth also serves gourmet meals like pasta and sandwiches.
When we asked our coworker if they were worth trying, he told us that, unfortunately, they taste like your average cafe food.

Pros
- Award-winning cakes and pastries
- Specializes in durian flavoured confections
Cons
- Baked goods are relatively pricey
- Service is slow
Regarded as the top-scoring cake delivery and durian bakery in Singapore by The Smart Local and Tropikal Club, respectively, The Durian Bakery’s baked goods are must-try for many good reasons.
Their durian crepe Swiss rolls, for one, are so delicious it can make haters of durian (me) forget that they don’t like it.
Granted, the durian flavour is so subtle, but it isn’t lost in the richness of the buttercream and the sweetness of the cake at all. Dare I say, it even enhances it.
And contrary to its name, this bakery also sells confectionaries that aren’t durian flavoured.
Their Portuguese egg tarts may actually be my favourite, but their mille crepes alongside the durian Swiss rolls are a close second.
Personally, I found The Durian Bakery’s products lean towards the pricier side. However, their pricing is reasonable for me since almost everything I tried was exquisite.
The Swiss roll alone is $88, but it’s expertly made and even earned them Tropika Club’s 2022 Best Durian Bakeries in Singapore.
The only real downside that I want to emphasize is that in both my experiences of ordering at their shop and through their website, their service was way too slow.
