Here’s what the new Punggol Coast Hawker Centre will look like!

I maintain that hawker centres are where real Singaporeans eat. They’re cheap, fast, non-fussy, but full of flavour. If it’s good enough for my ah ma and college kakis, it’s good enough for me.

Now, a brand spanking new centre approaches: Punggol Coast Hawker Centre. With refreshing sea breeze and dozens of stalls to choose from, this one’s got serious makan potential, and I’m excited to check it out!

Opening soon!

Punggol Coast Hawker Centre was originally slated for 2024, but will be opening soon after national hawker upgrades (which offer connectivity to public transport and inclusive amenities). It’s expected to begin operations in the middle part of 2025, and we’re all excited!

The centre will feature 40 food stalls and spacious seating for over 680 diners. This makes it ideal for big groups or busy meals during peak hours.

What to Expect in the New Punggol Coast Hawker Centre

Sample over 40 food stalls in one spot

I’m counting down the days until I can eat my way through all 40 stalls (a challenge my pals and I seriously take!), one tray at a time. From old-school char kway teow to hipster fusion rice bowls, this place will be like a buffet but minus the hefty price tag.

And with over 680 seats, I don’t have to chope a table to death even during the dinner rush. Suffice it to say, I’m ready to sample the makan madness coming my way.

I’ve got my eyes (and stomach) set on big names like 115 Tai Ho Jiak and Amoy Ban Mian. If they do show up, it’s game on: Botak Porridge for breakfast, ban mian for lunch, and whatever’s trending for dinner.

Even if the final list is still under wraps, I’m ready to queue for the hits. I’m planning to make this new hawker centre my new makan bingo card!

Pro-tip: Follow stall setup dates on socials like Facebook so you’ll know where to queue first.

Enjoy better ventilation and modern amenities

I’m looking forward to finally visiting a hawker centre where sweaty pits won’t be the default side dish! The high ceilings and better airflow mean I can actually enjoy hot soup in peace.

The newer layout should also mean cleaner loos and less elbow bumping. I’m all for old-school flavours in a not-so-old-school setting.

Pro-tip: Go during your lunch hour to survive the heat without using paper towels as a fan.
