Gardens by the Bay is once again joining the Lunar New Year celebrations this year. This iconic landmark ushers in the Year of the Snake with a grand floral display named Spring Blossoms

Spring Blossoms is inspired by Legend of the Lady White Snake, which is one of the great Chinese folktales. It follows the story of Xu Xian, a mortal man, and Bai Suzhen, a female snake spirit, who fell in love with each other against all odds.

I loved watching this grand love story unfold in this year’s display. If you’re ready to fall in love too, why not bring a date along?

What to Expect

Spring Blossoms is hosted inside the Flower Dome, and the first thing you’ll notice when you walk in is the sea of dahlias, the perennial favourite during Chinese New Year celebrations because they symbolise prosperity.

It’s reported that there are over 1,000 dahlias, with five new varieties, so expect to find an explosion of colour everywhere you look.

Floral Sculpture of Lady White Snake

Among the sea of flowers stands the star of the show—and my personal favourite feature of the display: a giant sculpture of the Lady White Snake herself. It’s made of flowers and leaves, and it’s bursting with jaw-dropping details!

Jixian Pavilion

The sculpture of the Lady White Snake isn’t the only thing worth looking at. There’s also a recreation of Jixian Pavilion, the place where the Lady White Snake and Xu Xian first locked eyes in the rain.

The pavilion inside the Flower Dome is surrounded by a canopy of pink, orange, and yellow Kalanchoe blossfeldiana flowers. Two marble statues of lions flank the entrance, seemingly guarding lovers’ meeting place.

Chinese Pagodas and Gardens

After the pavilion, you have to check out the Chinese pagodas as well. The two wooden pagodas are loaned from the Asian Civilizations Museum, and they represent the pagodas featured in the Chinese folktale.

They look so magnificent standing amidst the flowers and shrubs, their bright red colour attracting everyone’s eyes.

Last but not least, you have to visit the Chinese Gardens. The Chinese Gardens here at the Flower Dome look like a work of art with its artistic array of flowers and striking marble statues.

Whenever I come by here, I feel like I’m in the mythical tale myself and I’m waiting for my lover to meet me by the flowers.
