12 Best Foods in Takashimaya Food Court That Aren’t Boring Food Court Fare

I like ducking into Takashimaya Food Court after a shopping spree. There’s always something for my current craving, be it hot laksa, a cold matcha soft serve, or a petite dessert.

Nestled deep in Ngee Ann City’s basement, you’ll find everything from hearty rice bowls to Peranakan mains. It’s fast, flavourful, air-conditioned, and with plenty of variety minus the frills. Let’s check out the best of them!

Ebisu Sando Kyoto makes some of the thickest, juiciest sandos I’ve had in Orchard. There are no sad bread slices here, and its pork cutlet sando has a seriously scrumptious crunch-to-umami ratio.

Meanwhile, the Wagyu roast beef sando is rich without being greasy, with just the right hit of wasabi mayo. It’s pricey for a sandwich, but honestly, worth every bite.

Pro-tip: Popular sandos sell out by mid-afternoon, so get there as early as you can.

Tsuru-koshi is my go-to when I want something warm and filling without the wait. The curry udon is thick, peppery, and sticks to the ribs in the best way.

The tonkotsu broth has a rich, milky depth that’s rare for food court fare. I usually add a donburi set to turn my order into a proper meal, not just a quick fix.

Pro-tip: Ask for extra tempura flakes to add a nice crunch to your bowl (they’re free!).

Nakajima Suisan does grilled fish the old-school way; no gimmicks, just solid teishoku (small set meal) with crispy skin and flaky meat. The saba shioyaki (salt-grilled mackerel) set hits that smoky-salty sweet spot for me.

Another favourite is the buttery and delicate gindara cod, paired with rice, pickles, and miso soup that round out my meal nicely. It’s a quiet powerhouse in the food court, especially if you want something hearty but clean.

Pro-tip: Skip peak lunch hour as grill queues get long and seats fill fast. Aim for 11 AM or after 2 PM instead.

Shiseido Parlour

Shiseido Parlour isn’t cheap, but its cakes and cookies are pure class—delicate, buttery, and beautifully boxed. I usually go for the cheesecake, which is dense yet refined, not the cloying kind.

I’m also nuts about the langue de chat and seasonal fruit jellies that make easy gifts or indulgent desk drawer snacks. It’s like a patisserie crossed with a Japanese art gallery that’s tiny, precise, pricey, and a teensy bit addictive.

Pro-tip: Watch for the seasonal boxes that are limited edition and often sell out before the weekend.

Venchi

Venchi’s gelato is dangerously good—creamy, bold, but never overly sweet. I always end up getting the dark chocolate and pistachio with zero regrets.

Its chocolates aren’t cheap, but the quality shows in every bite, especially the hazelnut-filled ones. They’re great for gifting (or for hoarding in your fridge if you’re anything like me).

Pro-tip: Mix gelato flavours in a single cup to get more variety without paying for a bigger size.

Mini One

Mini One has become my go-to for a quick snack while weaving through the basement food crowd. The mini croissants, especially the maple and sweet potato varieties, disappear fast for a reason.

Everything is freshly baked on-site, so it’s not hard to catch a tray being rolled out while still warm. I like grabbing a mix of sweet and savoury treats, which I manage to finish before getting back to my seat.

Pro-tip: Swing by mid-afternoon for the freshest batch of bakes, and just in time for your tea break.

DONQ Boulangerie

Hours: Daily, 10 AM–9.30 PM

DONQ Boulangerie strikes a good balance between French crispiness and Japanese tenderness. Everything, from baguettes to milk loaves, has that soft crumb and golden crust.

Its seasonal pastries, like the Sakura cream puffs, always feel fresh and inventive without going overboard. The craftsmanship shows in every bite, too; no stale buns or soggy bottoms here.

Pro-tip: Try the daily specials near closing time, as some get marked down but are still freshly baked.

Bateel

Bateel is my favourite date place (the stone fruit, not the social activity) in Takashimaya Food Court. It offers top-notch varieties that are plump, naturally sweet, and come stuffed with things like candied orange peel or roasted nuts.

It’s a small shop, but the quality feels like you’re stepping into a luxury store in the Middle East. It’s great for guilt-free snacking or picking up a sleek gift box to go.

Pro-tip: Unlike its outlets abroad, there’s no coffee offered here, though the date selection sort of makes up for it.

Peck

Peck’s ciabatta has that real Italian crust that’s crispy on the outside and soft and airy inside. The spicy tuna sandwich is a solid pick; it’s quite filling, well-seasoned, and not overloaded with mayo.

I like grabbing a whole cheese ciabatta loaf and asking the staff to slice it. Everything is baked on-site, so it tastes fresh even when I eat it the next day!

Pro-tip: You can have your ciabatta toasted if you want to eat it on the spot (nobody’s going to judge you, I promise).

St. Leaven Bakery

St Leaven’s old-fashioned chocolate doughnut surprised me in the best way after one bite. It’s got that crisp edge and dense, cakey bite that’s rare to find, especially for its highly affordable price.

I loved its dark chocolate glaze, which was smooth and bitter enough to balance out the richness. At just S$1.90, it’s easily one of the best-value snacks in the entire food hall.

Pro-tip: Pair the doughnut with a kopi (from another stall) for an overall affordable but indulgent experience.

Cookie Mixx makes cookies that are crumbly, buttery, and not overly sweet—just how I like them. The Milo and Belgian chocolate flavours both hit that nostalgic comfort note for me.

They’re softer than most famous cookie brands, which I prefer. If you need an emergency gift, I suggest grabbing a tin of these babies, as they’re cute, sturdy, and reusable (plus, the cookies are yummy).

Pro-tip: Mix flavours by weight to try more varieties without committing to a big tin.

Juchheim

Juchheim’s baumkuchen (German layered cake) has always been consistently soft, buttery, and perfectly layered, with no dry rings.

The packaging is elegant, which is great for gifting without looking too try-hard (that’s how I discovered it in the first place, as a holiday gift!).

I love the limited lemon one for its refreshing taste, but I’d go for the caramel variety in a heartbeat. Even the original variant beats most store-bought versions by miles.

Pro-tip: For a richer and more satisfying teatime snack, try the caramel baumkuchen.
