Pongal Festival will brighten Singapore this January 2025!

Christmas and New Year’s Day may finally be over, but there are still celebrations to look forward to in Singapore this January. One perfect example is the Pongal Festival, which will be held from January 13 to 16, 2025, in Little India.

The Pongal Festival is celebrated by the Tamil Hindu community to express their gratitude and appreciation to Surya the sun god for a successful harvest. It’s also the time to pray for a bountiful spring season.

I’ve always loved this festival. Every corner of Little India becomes extra colourful with all the decorations, and there are many fun things you can do with your family!

Pongal Open House 2025: What to Expect

From: indianheritage_sg

The most popular attraction during the festival is the Pongal Open House, which is hosted by the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA) and the Indian Heritage Center. It will be open on January 11 and 12, from 10 am to 6 pm.

The Pongal Open House isn’t actually a house. It’s an outdoor bazaar, located along Campbell Lane and Clive Street, and it has many stalls selling festive goods like prayer items, traditional clothes, decorations, and Indian sugar cane.

There are also booths offering fun activities. I hear you can paint your face with colourful paints, take exciting photos in a photo booth, and play all sorts of carnival games.

My favourite part is the cattle farm area. Cows are an important part of the festival celebrations, so don’t be surprised to see them in the Pongal Open House. The cattle area will be along Clive Street, and I can’t wait to say hi to them!
