JS Carpentry & Contracts came in when my parents finally admitted that their 20-year-old HDB cabinets were wobbling more than they should. The team assessed the space quickly and recommended sturdier plywood builds with clean, modern laminate options.

I checked during and after and found their workmanship solid. The cabinetry had tight joints, smooth edges, and doors that closed without creaking. 

They were also patient enough to tweak shelf heights so Mum’s collection of giant rice cookers finally got a proper home.

They gave a detailed quote covering materials, hardware, and labour. They weren’t the cheapest (kitchen units start at around S$320 per foot run), but the quality of the Blum hinges and durable laminates made my parents feel the upgrades were worth it.

JS also helped with their design choices, showing Mum and Pop mockups that matched what they wanted (simple, functional, and no-nonsense). Installation was fast, tidy, and wrapped up well within the promised timeline, too.

That said, lead times can be long during renovation season (typically summertime), especially for bigger built-in jobs. Moreover, their style leans more practical than experimental, so it might not suit those looking for statement-piece carpentry.

When my sister decided her bare patio needed an outdoor deck worthy of weekend coffee photos, she called Calvary Carpentry to do the job. Their team showed up with samples of timbers and composite boards, explaining which could withstand Singapore’s brutal sun-and-rain combo.

They specialise in outdoor structures like pergolas, decks, and cladding, and it shows in how confidently they planned drainage gaps and board direction. Installation was surprisingly quick and precise, earning even my picky brother-in-law’s nod of approval.

Options range from Chengal to composite and even eco-friendly reclaimed wood! The composite material they chose costs S$22.80 per square foot, but my sister said the quality workmanship and understanding of tropical-weather durability justify the cost.

They’re experts with premium woods and can design decks that look sleek without becoming slip hazards (important for families with hyperactive toddlers). My sister’s new deck still looks solid months later and hasn’t warped or discoloured despite the rains.

Do note that if you’re looking for indoor carpentry or cabinetry, their focus is on outdoor structures and might not be able to accommodate the former. And for custom wood species, lead times can be longer due to demand.

CARPENTERS 匠 Tradehub21 handled the renovation of my favourite neighbourhood cafe, and I could almost smell the precision in its new mouldings. Their team also rebuilt the bar area with solid plywood, clean laminates, and hardware that made the drawers glide like butter (I watched the servers use them!).

They specialise in full carpentry for commercial and residential spaces, so they knew exactly how to design for heavy foot traffic and constant use. The shelving, cabinets, and service stations were built with cafe workflow in mind, so everything was practical, durable, and easy to clean.

I learned they gave the owners mockups that helped them visualise the new layout, minus the guesswork. Their build quality—tight joints, clean edges, sturdy structures—is all proof that the carpenters and owners were on the same page during the renovation. 

The cafe’s refreshed space now feels both polished and functional. It’s something I’m sure can survive the daily coffee and brunch chaos.

However, their style is more practical than premium, so more luxurious bespoke work might be out of the question. Also, if multiple custom pieces are involved, expect a longer lead time.

LS Handyman Service came to the rescue when my front door decided to give up right before a family gathering (oh, the earful I would’ve had from my parents about security!). 

Good thing they arrived fast, assessed the damage, and had the hinge and misaligned panel fixed before anyone arrived. Their carpentry work is straightforward: repairs, replacements, small builds, and adjustments that don’t require a full-blown renovation team.

They’re particularly useful for urgent fixes like sagging shelves, loose cabinet doors, or wobbly frames, which is why I called them in the first place. They also carried spare parts on-site, which saved me a trip to the hardware store.

I appreciated their speed and practical approach. There was no upselling, no overthinking, just clean repairs that made my door work fine again. For small carpentry jobs where precision and efficiency matter more than aesthetics, they get it done.

Do note that they’re not ideal for full custom carpentry or large built-in projects, since their focus is on quick fixes.

They were pretty versatile, too. Imagine, just one team being able to handle multiple small carpentry jobs and general repair without any fuss! They’re incredibly convenient for people needing functional, reliable fixes.

That said, they’re not the ones to call for full custom-built furniture or ambitious carpentry projects. Also, appointment slots can fill quickly, especially for multi-task requests.
