The students of the best driving schools in Singapore often pass on their first try!

Experience: To select schools and instructors with over five years of experience, our team reviewed Singaporean registries, company histories, and personal CVs. Qualifications: Police records, databases, and physical documents were examined to ensure the chosen schools only hire careful instructors holding at least a Class 3 Singaporean driving license. Facilities, reputation, and passing rates influenced the scores too. Communication Skills: Instructors who communicate efficiently, patiently, and clearly were favoured. For verification, we leaned on personal run-ins, forums, and interviews. The same were used to grade each school’s overall customer service. Flexibility: Direct inquiries, experience, interviews, and feedback helped us determine which schools adjust their scheduling and training methods to fit a student’s lifestyle or preferred learning approach. Pricing: Balancing the financial investment against the overall quality of instruction allowed us to quantify cost-effectiveness. Our team also gave bonus points to schools with specials and/or pricing within Singapore’s usual range.

First thing I did when I turned 18 was to get myself into a driving school. In retrospect, it was a smart move, as the structured lessons and extra circuit time helped secure my license quickly (something this guide can help you with).

Was it an investment, though? It surely was, especially compared to hiring a private driving instructor. That’s one reason I spent ages figuring out which spots deserved my hard-earned cash.

You can forget about that hassle. We already did the hard work, rounding up Singapore’s top driving schools that can help you pass tests quickly.

Oh, and once you’ve passed, these local scenic routes are worth the drive!

Running since 1983, Singapore Safety Driving Centre’s (SSDC) longevity is evident in its approach.

Most interviewees raised good points, such as the clarity of explanations and the staff’s patience. As they claimed, the instructors stay calm and informative even if you give them “mini heart attacks.”

SSDC also houses an award-winning Intelligent Driving Circuit (IDC), spanning 25,000 square metres. It’s used for both testing and training, and simulators are included in the three-storey facility.

Course-wise, the selection goes beyond standard licensing. Theory, refresher, and specialised programs (like heavy vehicle training) are offered.

Booking practical lessons can mean staying put for a very, very long time, sadly. Don’t be shocked to hear about students who had to wait for an entire year.

You can’t schedule multiple appointments in one week either, as it’s usually limited to two due to SSDC’s heavy demand.

Pros

  • Open since 1983
  • Has its own driving circuit
  • Broad course coverage
  • Strong safety focus

Cons

  • Extremely long wait times for practical lessons
  • Can’t book multiple meetings in a week

He is patient, kind, and always makes me feel comfortable

I had a really positive experience learning with my driving instructor Mr Rostam (6493). He is patient, kind, and always makes me feel comfortable during lessons. He explains things clearly and uses effective teaching methods that are easy to understand and apply. His driving techniques are practical and focused on safety, which helped me build confidence quickly. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a supportive and professional instructor.

Bukit Batok Driving Centre’s (BBDC) step-by-step methodology is one major reason its demand is massive. Japanese experts have developed the approach, all while considering Singapore’s traffic conditions, regulations, risks, and tech.

From experience, it’s effective. The majority of students pass on their first attempt.

Credit is also due to the yearly-evaluated instructors; lots of them are patient and meticulous when it comes to details. And while a couple may come off as strict, many find it well-intended.

I mean, it’s not as frustrating as BBDC’s main drawback, which is the lengthy delay period. Those who can’t sit idly for at least 7 months should look for a less popular school.

The admin’s service quality has faced tons of criticism as well, particularly the counter staff. Many found them unfriendly and inefficient.

On the bright side, BBDC’s vehicles rarely break down, owing largely to regular maintenance.

Pros

  • Open since 1990
  • Led by Japanese experts
  • Most students pass on their first attempt
  • Doesn’t charge extra for circuit access (members only)

Cons

  • Incredibly long wait times
  • Staff are said to be unfriendly

Explained Everything Clearly

I had a great experience learning with my motorcycle instructor, Razi. He was extremely patient and calm. He explained everything clearly. A very fun and friendly instructor! He never makes us feel nervous and always creates a comfortable learning environment. Learning with him was enjoyable and stress-free. Highly recommended! 🏍️

Highly Recommended

I had an amazing experience with the Class 2B instructors and progressed so much throughout my learning journey. Each instructor shared different tips that helped me work on my weaknesses, and they were always able to pinpoint my mistakes so I could correct them and improve quickly. Some instructors were strict, but for good reason. It really pushed me to improve. What I appreciated most was how patient and supportive they were. A few could tell when I was incredibly stressed and helped me calm down instead of adding pressure, even cracking a joke or two. Because of their guidance, I became a more confident rider and passed my Class 2B on my first attempt. Highly recommend!

Making students wait for months or a year isn’t DrivingHoneyBee’s style. Same-day and next-day lessons can be arranged, with Angela (the broker) often praised for being responsive, patient, proactive, and quick at finding the right match.

There’s also positive feedback for instructors such as Frankie, Ben, and Norman. “Easy to understand and practical” is how most describe their lessons.

In exchange, you lose the more structured syllabus commonly found in bigger schools. Training consistency significantly depends on the instructor.

Another compromise is not having access to dedicated practice circuits or simulators. Keep in mind that large-scale centres simulate Traffic Police test conditions more closely.

If paying less matters more, then such problems can be brushed off. DrivingHoneyBee’s costs are relatively cheaper.

The course selection isn’t too limited either. Students can book refresher lessons and those for Class 3/3A licenses.

Pros

  • Accommodates next-day/same-day requests
  • More competitive rates
  • Highly responsive
  • Efficient instructor matching

Cons

  • No large-scale facilities
  • Less structured syllabus

Prompt and Helpful

Mr. Frankie is an excellent driving instructor — patient, calm, and very clear in his guidance. He explains things in a way that’s easy to understand and helps you correct mistakes without stress, which really builds confidence on the road. I felt well-prepared and safe driving under his instruction, and I’d highly recommend him to anyone learning to drive. Special thanks to Angela as well for her prompt and helpful communication via WhatsApp — it made scheduling and coordination smooth and fuss-free.

Kind, Experienced

Angela has been extremely helpful and responsive throughout the process. She is patient in explaining all queries and always does her best to accommodate requests. She will follow up to make sure everything is ok and help to remind instructor just because I’m worried that the instructor might not remember the appointment but at the same time I dint want to keep pestering the instructor. The private instructor she assigned to me, Mr Ong, is a kind, experienced, Chinese-speaking instructor. He has a very grandfatherly presence—gentle yet firm—and makes sure you truly listen to and follow his instructions. He even shared that he will be retiring soon and is determined to ensure all his students pass before he does. I’m truly glad I engaged Angela to support me in my private driving journey!

The full-service ComfortDelGro Driving Centre (CDC) has a varied course selection. You can enrol to learn about basic theory, to secure Class 3/3A licenses, and even to provide your employees (if you run a business) with bespoke corporate training.

Over 300 qualified instructors are on hand to help with that. What’s great is they’re specifically trained to structure lessons based on a learner’s pace, all while boosting confidence and correcting mistakes patiently.

Just be mindful that a good number of them can be quite strict in style. The good news is that past students felt it ultimately worked in their favour, as several enjoyed first-attempt success.

One aspect that really needs to change, though, is CDC’s customer service. Complaints have been made about the counter staff being rude and slow to respond.

A portion of users also say the online booking system is extremely laggy.

Pros

  • Operating since 1996
  • Offers numerous courses
  • Strict but effective and tailored style
  • Offers occasional promotions

Cons

  • Delayed replies and cold service
  • Laggy online booking system

I felt supported

I highly recommend my instructor Mazlan Bin Jan (EV Team4) whom I went through almost all my practical lessons with. He is professional, patient and encouraging, which made big difference in building my confidence behind the wheel. Instead of feeling pressured, I felt supported through every mistake, and continued to stay focused during the more challenging maneuvers.

Detailed Guidance

I’m grateful to Genevieve who was my instructor for one of my driving lessons. She patiently guided me by running through the flow and sequence of what to do for the driving manoeuvre I was learning, and also gave driving tips that I found useful. Along the way, her words of affirmation when I correctly executed a manoeuvre or properly did a safety check helped to increase my confidence in driving. When I made a mistake, her reassurance that it was part of the learning experience followed by her detailed guidance to remedy it made me feel more at ease. I really enjoyed her lesson, and believe that students under her would gain a lot. Thank you Genevieve!

Car Refresher Course Centre (CRCC) is Singapore’s first specialised refresher training school. It’s mainly for licensed drivers who technically can drive, but mentally or practically don’t anymore.

One of its unique features is letting students use their own vehicles. That’s a major practical advantage because learners adapt to the car they’ll continue to drive post-lessons (and renting the centre’s SUV or sedan costs $55 more).

Lessons also begin at your doorstep and support island-wide coverage. Sentosa residents only have to pay S$10 extra per lesson.

We’d say that’s not excessive when you factor in the instructors’ experience and flexibility. Most have been teaching for 20-plus years and can adjust session dates based on a student’s calendar.

The catch? Well, CRCC isn’t a school for beginners, and there’s a $10 surcharge on weekends, peak hours (3 pm onwards), and public holidays.

Pros

  • Operating since 2008
  • Specialises in refresher courses
  • Allows students to use their own vehicles
  • Students’ availability determines scheduling

Cons

  • No structured curriculum for beginners
  • Weekend, holiday, and peak hour surcharges
