Truthfully, I wasn’t shocked. Most of the store’s diamonds, like the one he bought, carry a GIA-AGS Ideal 0 and GCAL 8x rating. In plain English, that translates to the highest mark for light performance and precision cutting.

We learned that from the patient and well-informed consultants like Janice and Ryan. Both listened to our ideas, explained stuff, and shaped a detailed sparkler for our budget.

Selection-wise, we were impressed as well. The store had over 200 ready designs to try on, one of the biggest selections in Singapore. 

Their custom rings, however, often take 4–6 weeks to complete. Gem shoppers also crowd the store even on Saturdays and Sundays; best to ring and set an appointment.

BA.SG gave us a shiok jewellery shopping experience. Staff like Lucas and Amanda particularly made it easy with their breakdown of each in-store diamond’s 4Cs.

The pricing also didn’t push us away. Brick-and-mortar rates didn’t differ that much from the price tags online, and they’re all fair for Singapore’s standard.

That actually surprised us. We were preparing for premium pricing since their lab-grown diamonds are GIA and IGI-certified.

They also showed us a palette of fancy colours, like green, yellow, pink, and blue. Cut options were just as plentiful, with round and pear shapes among our favourites.

Unfortunately, doors shut on Sundays. Most stores here operate daily.

We’d also appreciate it if more ready-to-wear options were made available, like the first entry.

On the upside, special services are provided. Ring rentals and engraving stood out to us, especially since the latter can be done in 20-plus fonts, including special characters.

‘The initial arrangements were scheduled by Jimmy & Chris. Our appointment was well coordinated as it should be, with no hiccups. Ended up going to them by sheer luck after months of browsing the web and comparing prices/designs. Decided to choose them for their lab-grown diamond selection, and it was Indeed a good choice. Prices were surprisingly competitive and they had the specs and design that I was looking for. Amanda was the one who guided me through the process of purchasing/selecting the ring and also on things to take note of. The team was accommodating throughout the whole time. Came back a 2nd time 3 months later to collect the ring, as arranged and was not disappointed (Pics below). Will look to go back for the wedding bands. Hoping for a smooth proposal! Top-Notch Service and Fun Experience

‘I was recommended by a friend who also purchased his engagement ring here. Checked out a few other spots with lab-grown diamonds nearby, but hands down, the service here was top-notch!

Though we didn’t bag a ring from The Better Diamond, our interviewees and teammates who did had good things to say, especially about their custom work.

For starters, this retailer’s staff is communicative. Technical bits are simplified at the start, and they’ll call you first for updates or design input.

Each client also gets one dedicated consultant; you won’t get shuffled from one staff member to another. That consultant will then ask about your budget and wishlist before whipping up possible designs.

Another positive is their virtual inspection tool. Clients get to view their rings in 360° and zoom up to 40x. If you see something you don’t like, you can raise the concern immediately instead of waiting a day or two.

Now, the flip side: their process is slower than most, usually taking about 8–10 weeks. Plus, you can only browse online since a physical store isn’t available.

We gave Novita high marks for convenience.

No other entry has an online customiser as user-friendly as theirs. Even the gem rookies we spoke to didn’t have much trouble using it for personalisation and budgeting purposes.

Basics like clarity and shape are all there, and if you know a bit about gemology, advanced options like preferred symmetry and polish level can be played with.

If you’d rather not fiddle with the settings yourself, the Singapore showroom is good news. The collection of lab-grown diamonds there is massive; we perused about 825!

Angeline, our consultant, was also informative without hard-selling. Most first-time shoppers and buyers echo that.

Moreover, the store runs promotions frequently.

Our main gripe? The showroom can get jammed. Not every piece qualifies for the same-day delivery, either.

On the upside, clients can avail of a one-time, free engagement resizing service during the first 12 months of their purchase date.

Beyond their signature artisan rings, Authica’s crew won over many clients we chatted with. First-time shoppers especially loved that their vision and budget were respected by the accommodating staff.

The store’s face-to-face consultations are also refreshing; meetings are done in a comfy lounge setup instead of a glitzy room. When we called to ask why, Authica explained that it’s to encourage authentic convos instead of ‘too salesly’ talks.

Now let’s talk diamonds. Their GIA and IGI-certified UltiCut range impressed us since it’s made up of just 1% of their finest lab-grown gems.

Authica’s gems also mimic the classic 58-facet brilliance of mined ones, but they’re about 60% cheaper and more eco-friendly.

However, there are snags. Being closed on Sundays is one.

In addition, changing your mind post-purchase would mean paying a 400 SGD recycling fee.

Professional and Reliable

‘There are some place in life where you will find certainty. Authica J provided us with the sense of security, with how professional and reliable they are to deliver the best diamond jewellery. Paired with aesthetic ring designs, their ring became so awe-inspiring. Despite the tight timeline we demanded them to complete the ring within, not only did they complete it well within the timeline, they provided explanations to every detail necessary to the preservation of the diamonds.

When we received the ring, we were informed that the ring had a scratch at the prong which we couldn’t even see. After collecting the ring for the proposal, we were advised to return it to get the scratch removed. My fiancée did not even want to return it because of how pretty it was.

It’s was a very wholesome experience, because they didn’t make something so personal, transactional. If you like diamonds, you like aesthetic designs, you like a wholesome chat. This is your place. And yes it was so good, I wrote this long a review.’

Very Pleased with How the Ring Turned Out

‘A long overdue post — we had the most pleasant experience designing our engagement ring and wedding rings with Authica J!

My husband first worked with Sharon on the engagement ring – she was extremely helpful in guiding him throughout the process and immediately understood the vision and requirements for the ring. Sharon also offered great suggestions and advice. The ring design was a total surprise to me but it was just perfect! My husband and I were very pleased with how the ring turned out and returned to customise our wedding rings with them!

Sharon proposed a design for my wedding ring which maintains a similar motif to the engagement ring and interconnects beautifully with it, while my husband’s ring has a rose gold design in the inner layer while maintaining its “ruggedness”.
