My teacher, Ms. Johnson, is patient, knowledgeable, and makes every lesson engaging. When it comes to English and Mandarin courses, the School of Languages International is highly recommended. But did you know that they also teach French here? It’s good to know that they’re expanding their reach.
While their lineup of languages is admittedly small, they make up with the variety of classes. For example, you can focus on learning a language in either a conversational or a practical context, or you can book an exam preparation course.
Language classes for kids, private classes, and even classes for corporate training are available as well. You can also book online classes if you can’t find the time to go to the physical location.
Speaking of the school’s physical location, it’s right in Chinatown (here’s what you should do in the area after your class!), with the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station literally just a minute away on foot. If you prefer the bus, there are several bus stops in the nearby streets as well.
Do take note that the prices are on the higher end here. The cheapest option is usually around S$600, with the course lasting for four weeks. If you want a course that spans multiple months, you’ll be seeing a much higher price tag.
Patient and genuinely invested teachers
“I’ve been having a great experience here. Teachers are patient and genuinely invested in helping their students improve. The balance between grammar, speaking and writing is what kept me interested. Since joining, I feel more confident now to speak more in public. I encourage anyone who is looking to improve their language to consider this school. Highly recommend.”
Thorough teachers, relaxed and enriching classes
“The learning experience has been fantastic, and I want to give special thanks to Teacher Jen! She is highly professional and patient, and her classes are both relaxed and enriching. Whether it’s grammar explanation or speaking practice, she always breaks things down clearly and thoroughly, helping me better understand and apply English.”

Edupedia Language and Training Academy is perfectly situated in Rochor (read our guide with directions to get to the area). It’s literally right inside The Bencoolen, which is one of the neighbourhood’s most popular shopping malls, so you won’t get lost.
Their convenience just doesn’t stop at the location. Most of the classes are scheduled on the weekends or weekday evenings, and online classes are also available here! All this is good news for people with busy schedules.
This school is perfect for people who want to broaden their knowledge of Asian languages. To be more specific, you can learn how to converse in Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese here.
They also have English classes.
I like that their courses are categorised based on difficulty level, making it easy to book the right one for you. The classes are also well-organised; after nailing down the basics, you’ll then immerse yourself in Thai culture.
The class prices are pretty reasonable; they cost either S$480 or S$530. You can even have them funded through schemes like SkillsFuture and NTUC UTAP, so you won’t have to pay the full price.
That said, these fees are non-refundable, so you need to be sure when enrolling. I wish they had a trial lesson so that the students could see if they meshed well with the instructors before proceeding.
Nice and informative teachers
“I attended their Thai Beginner course for 20 hours over 10 lessons. Khun Kru Nuna is very nice and I have learnt quite a lot from her. I am now able to understand simple Thai phrases and will be looking to put them to good use in Bangkok when I visit. Thank you!”

They explained things clearly and took the time to make sure everyone understood. The classes were well-organized, and the small group size made it easy to ask questions and get personal help. The staff were also very helpful and supportive throughout my learning journey. I highly recommend Edupedia to anyone looking to improve their language or communication skills.”

LingoAce Singapore only has Chinese language classes for children and teenagers, which is a bit of a disappointment. Still, this school is perfect for parents who want their kids to learn this language because their classes are comprehensive.
Ideally, kids should start their Chinese studies here at the age of three, and they progress as they age. By the time they become teenagers, they’ll be ready for the advanced classes.
I like how the instructors approach the teaching. The pre-school programs follow the Reggio Emilia approach, which uses games, animated storytelling, and songs.
Meanwhile, the advanced classes use the syllabus set by the Chinese Ministry of Education, so they’re rigorous but still engaging. There’s a lot of emphasis on language application skills.
While classes are held inside a classroom, they also have an app that kids can use at home. Parents told me that the app is intuitive and engaging, so their kids get to practice their Chinese while “playing.”
Prices here are affordable as well. Every session costs either S$15 (25-minute class) or S$30 (55-minute class), but if you buy a bundle of them, you can score a steep discount.
Additionally, they offer a trial lesson—for free! This is such a lovely feature, and many parents appreciate it.
Intuitive app, engaging classes
“As an Indian parent, I know how challenging it can be for kids to learn Chinese—it’s a completely different language system! But LingoAce has truly made the journey smooth and enjoyable for my son. The app is intuitive, engaging, and tailored to young learners. What really sets LingoAce apart are the amazing teachers and account managers. The instructors are patient, professional, and know exactly how to keep kids motivated. And the account managers are incredibly supportive—they’re always available to guide us and make sure everything runs smoothly. Thanks to LingoAce, my son is not just learning Chinese—he’s actually enjoying it. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a reliable and effective language learning platform!”

If you want to learn an Asian or European language at the same time, inlingua is the best school for you. Truly, their lineup of languages offered is unmatched; you can even learn Khmer, Lao, and Hokkien, which I haven’t seen in a lot of other schools.
One thing I like about this school is that they try to keep their classes small, usually just six students (on rare occasions, they’ll have up to 15). This is great because it maximises the students’ chances for interaction and participation.
And let me tell you, you’re definitely going to participate because the classes are interactive. Sometimes, it feels like I’m just chatting with my teachers and classmates, which I love.
I have to commend the flexible nature of the classes as well. You can book them standard (two hours a week) or accelerated (four to six hours a week), and if you want to decide your own hours, you can have a private class instead.
This school is also conveniently located. It’s near Orchard Road, so it’s easy to get to via public transportation.
Unfortunately, the courses here are no longer SkillsFuture claimable, so you can’t fund your classes via that scheme. I hope this changes in the future.
Kind and understanding teachers
“This is a great language school. The teachers are kind, friendly, and understand the students. They try to help us think and speak. My classmates are nice, and the staff are warm and welcoming.”

Well-organized teachers
“The teachers are very kind and the classes are well-organized, so my English has definitely improved. They always welcome questions and the class atmosphere is great. Since there are students from many different countries, I could experience diverse cultures as well. Communicating in English all the time also made speaking much easier for me. It was a short time, but a very valuable experience.”

If you want a language school right in Singapore’s business district, then look no further than Stanford Language Center. It’s located inside the Peninsula Shopping Complex, which is near the Supreme Court and the National Gallery Singapore.
This school specialises in Asian languages, specifically Mandarin, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese. It’s a pretty decent lineup, in my opinion, and I like that you can choose to be in a usual group class or a private one.
People praise the instructors’ unique way of teaching. They sometimes do role plays, which students find fun and exciting. They told me that roleplaying in a different language helps them get creative with the expressions.
The class prices here are pretty affordable. Usually, a basic conversational language class is around S$400 (for 10 lessons) or S$770 (for 20 lessons), but it’s possible to get them discounted if you book way ahead of time.
While it’s great that the prices are affordable, I still wish this school offered a trial lesson.
Unique way of teaching
“I have been taking Vietnamese lessons with Jenny for 2 levels now. She has a unique way of teaching via role plays which is fun and interactive. Also, we get a chance to learn words that are not taught in textbooks, and which are considered more natural in daily conversations. Jenny will also refer us back to earlier chapters when going through more difficult sentence structures, and that helps for us who doesn’t revise very frequently. Highly recommend for anyone looking to fun while learning and and wanting to learn more words outside of the books!”

Engaging and memorable lessons
“I highly recommend Stanford Language Centre if you want to take up Vietnamese class! Giáo Viên Jenny has such a unique teaching style that makes each lesson engaging and memorable. She incorporates a lot of role-playing and interactive activities, like forming sentences on the spot, which really helps us practice and apply what we’re learning. I also appreciate how she constantly refers back to previous lessons to connect the topics, making everything feel cohesive and reinforcing our understanding. Overall, her creative approach and dedication to helping us improve make this class truly stand out! Cảm ơn Jenny.”
