Find your new best friend at the 5 best pet adoption centres in Singapore!

Transparency in process - There should be clear information on adoption fees, medical checks, and other requirements.

Animal welfare standards - We checked for proper sheltering, vet care, sterilisation, and no-kill policies.

Support for adopters - Is there post-adoption guidance, training help, and resources for new owners?

Variety and accessibility - Is there easy contact or online browsing for a range of pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals) to suit a variety of lifestyles?

I’ve always believed the best breed is “rescued,” and it’s been reinforced by the best pet adoption centres in Singapore. Every whiskered face at these places is looking for a forever home, from dogs to bunnies, and each one deserves happiness.

Thankfully, adoption here already covers vet care, sterilisation, and microchipping, so you can rest assured your new buddy is safe and healthy. So skip the pet shops, and let this review help you meet your next best friend!

At SG’s Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, I’ve seen firsthand how transparency makes adopters feel secure. The fees cover sterilisation, microchipping, and vaccinations, so there are no surprises.

Its welfare standards are top-notch, with proper kennels and vet support for every animal. It’s also one of the few centres that rehomes not just dogs and cats, but rabbits, hamsters, and even chinchillas!

I love that adopter support doesn’t end on the day the pet is brought home. The centre gives guidance on integration and pet care, and many new furparents benefit from the 24-hour emergency rescue services (quite rare in the Lion City).

However, some people feel that the process is too strict, with detailed checks on housing and family readiness. Limited viewing slots also mean you’ll need to book early and practice patience.

rocess was pleasant and efficient

We got our precious kitty from the SPCA. The whole adoption process was pleasant and efficient. The volunteer, Shannon, was very helpful, knowledgeable, kind and obviously very considerate towards the cats. If you are considering having a pet, do not buy but adopt one. Give these animals a chance to be loved and have a forever home.

A welcoming space for animal lovers

A welcoming space for animal lovers. Wait till they have events to find out more. It’s a good learning centre for kids and the community in general. Free parking spaces too.

At Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS), transparency means adopters know exactly what they’re signing up for. Every dog here comes with full medical care, sterilisation, and a clear adoption process.

Its welfare standards are focused on “Singapore Specials,” giving local mixed breeds a real second chance. More importantly, the dogs live in proper kennels with daily exercise and volunteer interaction.

The good news for adopters is that support continues post-adoption, with OSCAS volunteers checking in and offering advice to help dogs settle into new homes. They also run events and campaigns to raise awareness about street dogs.

The catch is that the centre only focuses on dogs, so cat or small-pet adopters will need to look elsewhere. Shelter space is also limited, meaning wait times can be longer before meeting the right dog.

Pros

  • Spotlights “Singapore Specials”
  • Strong volunteer network
  • Transparent adoption package
  • Awareness and outreach campaigns

Cons

  • Dog-only shelter
  • Limited capacity

The volunteers who help run it are saints!

I fostered a beautiful dog called Zoe from OSCAS. This is a well-run shelter that cares so much for the dogs. I’d never been to a rescue shelter before, and it really opened my eyes to how much work is involved in looking after so many animals at one time. The volunteers who help run it are saints! There are lots of lovely dogs available for adoption, of various breeds and ages. Think we will be back for another one.

Animal Lovers League (ALL) exhibits full transparency via clear adoption fees covering sterilisation and vaccinations. It also openly shares each animal’s history so adopters know what to expect.

The welfare at this place is strict. It operates on a no-kill policy, caring for over 500 dogs and cats at the Animal Lodge, with each animal getting proper food, shelter, and medical attention.

The adopters also receive strong support courtesy of volunteers guiding them through pet care and adjustment periods. The centre consistently runs donation drives and sponsorship programs so adopters can stay engaged, even after the adoption.

The downside is that housing so many animals means the shelter can feel crowded and overwhelming at times. Resources are stretched thin, so adopters may experience slower responses or fewer one-on-one sessions.

Pros

  • No-kill policy
  • Large capacity
  • Transparent practices
  • Community involvement

Cons

  • Overcrowding challenges
  • Limited resources

The cat place looked pretty clean for a shelter

Wanted to adopt a kitten and was recommended ALL by a friend. But when I reached there, I was told there weren’t any kittens, but they had cats younger than 4 years old. The staff member, Ashok, explained to me that adoptions are through appointments. Initially, he denied me entry, but later allowed me to take a quick peek. The man was very kind and knowledgeable about cats. The cats were so beautiful and were snoring away. The cat place looked pretty clean for a shelter. For those adopting, remember to fix an appointment before you head down. ADOPT AND DON’T BUY.

Causes for Animals Singapore (CAS) has welfare standards extending beyond the shelter. I first became aware of the organisation through its trap-neuter-release programs that help manage stray populations humanely.

Many of their rescues come directly from the streets and are rehabilitated with proper care before adoption. The centre is transparent about the adoption process, with fees covering sterilisation, microchipping, and vaccines.

I like how each animal’s temperament, health, and personality are clearly provided so potential adopters know which one is a good fit for them.

CAS also offers strong support post-adoption via check-ins and training advice, plus pet ownership community outreach.

The limitation I see is that the rescue relies heavily on donations and volunteers, so resources can be tight at times. Also, available animals may be fewer compared to larger shelters, limiting choices for adopters.

Pros

  • Stray-focused rescue
  • Comprehensive adoption package
  • Adopter support
  • Community outreach

Cons

  • Smaller capacity
  • Funding dependent

They will really go the extra mile for the strays

A very, very helpful and passionate organisation in helping stray animals. Communication with Christine has always been very efficient and easy. They had never said no to any request for help for the strays. 3 of the stray cats from my workplace that I have trapped on my own have been TNR through CAS. Another community cat who is suspected to be unwell has also gone through a medical assessment by their vet. They will really go the extra mile for the strays. Thank you very much, CAS!

I still remember my first visit to Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD) and how every “Singapore Special” had a story written in their eyes. The team doesn’t just pull dogs off the street, but also gives them medical care, training, and lots of patience to bloom.

What impressed me most was how much support continues even after adoption. Programs like “Pawsitive Futures” guide nervous pups into becoming confident companions, with volunteers always checking in with heartfelt advice.

The adoption process is quite clear; fees already cover sterilisation, microchipping, and vaccinations. I found this transparency reassuring because it felt like the centre wants what’s best for both the dogs and the adopters.

If I had to nitpick, the process can feel long with strict screening steps, and the shelter can only house so many dogs at a time. That means some of the street dogs wait far longer than they should for a family.

Pros

  • Focuses on “Singapore Specials”
  • Rehabilitation-oriented
  • Pawsitive Futures program
  • Strong adopter support

Cons

  • Lengthy process
  • Limited capacity

I have adopted 3 dogs into my family

Really want to thank all the volunteers and staff in SOSD for the selfless sacrifice in taking in the furfriends. I have adopted 3 dogs into my family, and I really hope more pet owners can consider adopting instead of buying new puppies, as they need love and care as well.

The entire process was wonderful

Adopted Curry 3 years ago on 15th August 2021, this has been the best 3 years of my life because I found my bestest buddy. I listened and trusted the advice and recommendations of my rehomer, May, and that’s how I got to meet Curry. The entire process was wonderful, as you can see how committed and passionate all the volunteers are! I never felt alone, and I always have someone to ask for advice, which is really reassuring for a new dog owner. Once again, thank you, SOSD, for bringing Curry into my life.
