Shoot your best shot with the 5 best golf coaches in Singapore!
I used to dread tagging along with my dad and grandfather whenever they headed out for a golfing session. I was way too young and impatient to understand the game.
When I grew up and had the chance to take lessons, I quickly picked up that it’s actually quite fun! I credit my awakening to golf to my golf coaches who were so patient.
If you’re thinking about picking up the sport or want to try out new techniques for a social or upcoming competition, here are the best local coaches I highly recommend.

I first heard about Lee Carrington through a friend who swore her coaching transformed his golfing game. Before booking a session, I did my research. Within minutes, I saw why she’s highly rated: she keeps things simple and focuses on practical tweaks.
Lee has been coaching in Singapore since 1998, after turning pro and making the cut at the Australian Open. She’s taught at many clubs, including Orchid Country Club and Keppel.
Her lessons are also pretty affordable starting at $620 per person for 8 sessions and $1,200 per person for a full hour. Her starter package runs for only 30 minutes, unfortunately.
She trains only five days a week, so her schedule fills up fast. If you’re serious about improving, I highly recommend booking a slot at least a week or two in advance.
Weekends are busy days for her, so you’ll need to work around weekday sessions if slots run out.
Wonderfully talented golf coach
“Lee is a wonderfully talented golf instructor and that’s based on my 30+ years playing golf and having a 1 handicap. Lee‘s many years of experience, teaching players from beginners through to advanced, is immediately evident. Her proven ability to quickly assess your swing, diagnosing both your strengths and weaknesses, is impressive! Lee provides a player with numerous drills, to enable them to both see and „feel“ the correct golf movements. Her lessons are focussed and fun. I have certainly benefited from her expertise. If you want improvement – Go see Lee!”

Master at her craft
“Lee is a master at her craft. She is able to adjust her explanations to fit where you are at and how you may hear it best. I appreciate how Lee dissects what she sees when filming your swing and then picks only one or two things to focus on, so you can see an immediate improvement without being overwhelmed and in your head. Lee has worked with me, someone with no prior experience with any swinging sport, and my teenage daughter, a seasoned baseball and tennis player. It is a pleasure to be coached by her, as she focuses you where you need to focus, with her keen eye and a great sense of humor. I would recommend her to anyone – from a beginner with no golf experience to a seasoned player who is looking to tweak something.”

Edmund Tan has years of experience coaching golfers of all ages, specialising in junior and collegiate athletes. As a former student-athlete in the US, he excels at preparing young golfers for collegiate and professional careers.
With certifications from AimPoint, the US KidsGolf Coaches Institute, and the Titleist Performance Institute, he offers expert guidance in both technical skills and competitive strategy.
His structured lessons begin with physical movement and form, then progress to swing control, launch precision, and mental game development.
He provides comprehensive training for golfers aiming for local and international competitions. However, his lessons come at a premium.
Group sessions (three students) start at nearly $2,000 for eight sessions, while one-on-one coaching begins at $990 for the same duration. While his expertise is invaluable for serious athletes, the pricing may be steep for those seeking golf as a casual hobby.
Best decision made
“Coach Edmund has given me a whole new insight to Golf. I have had lessons from other coaches previous but decided to attend Coach Edmund’s beginner lessons with my peers. It was the best decision I have made for my Golfing Game.”

Patient and thorough
“Coach Edmund was patient during my first golf lesson. A very nice person who is approachable and constantly spotting for any incorrect posture.”

My grandfather swears by coach Jun. He loves how Jun never rushes him into techniques that don’t suit his mobility and always prioritises safety. His schedule is flexible, making it easy to fit in lessons without stress.
Jun has over 20 years of coaching experience, with a teaching history at Mandai Executive and Orchid Country Club. He’s competed in the SPGA Circuit and even holds certifications from the Titleist Performance Institute and the Ministry of Education.
He’s also trained in first aid, CPR, and AED—though hopefully, you’ll never need it!
Beyond improving swings, Jun is a great choice if you’re looking to get your Golf Handicap Card, which unlocks club privileges and teaches golf etiquette.
I must note that his lessons are a bit pricey, starting at $120 per hour and with a 10-session package at $1,200.
You can, however, get less than 10 hours of lessons. I don’t recommend that though if you want to pick up the sport long-term.
Also, classes can get fully booked fast, so securing a spot early is key.
Gentle, friendly, and patient
“Before coach Jun, I’ve taken golf lessons from other coaches before without any game improvements. By far, coach Jun is the best! He is gentle, friendly and patient. Most importantly, his teaching style is what make me improved the most as he is experienced and would spot and correct my bad habits instantaneously. Thank you coach Jun! Really enjoyed the lessons from you!”

Patient and encouraging coach
“Pro Jun has helped me (45 yo golfer) to launch my driver shots past 200m in just 2 lessons. And my scores dropped by 20 strokes after taking his intermediate lessons. He is very patient and encouraging, super friendly and always gave tips on my golf range videos, and I always looking forward to his class. I still have adhoc lessons to bomb my drives further past 250m! Strong recommendation to any aspiring golfers!”

If you’re really serious about levelling up your golf game, then Gary Doolan should be on your radar. I brought my dad to train with him, and we quickly saw why he’s so highly recommended.
Gary has over 35 years of golf experience and trains beginners as well as players eyeing a pro career.
I only tried out the one-hour swing analysis ($200), but my dad went on the 10-hour beginner program that cost him $1,650. It covers the basics, but you can get it for much cheaper if you invite other friends to join in a group class.
If 10 hours is too long, he also offers a 5-hour skills session ($930). It’s good that he offers more flexibility in terms of packages because he’s not the cheapest in the city.
Gary’s lessons are structure and technique-focused, so if you’re after a casual game, this might not be your vibe. But again, if you’re serious about improving, he’s one of the best!
Very good at identifying swing issues
“Garry is the reason I enjoy the game so much. He is extremely patient, encouraging, is very good at identifying and correcting swing issues, gives clear, easy to understand instructions and most importantly, he knows how to make golf fun. When I took lessons from Garry, I always looked forward to my next lesson with him and today I have a swing that I am proud of. Whether you are a newbie to the sport or an experienced player who wants to enhance their swing, Garry is the man to go to.”

Fun personality
“Garry is a great coach! His patience, constant encouragement and fun personality has kept me wanting to improve and stick with the game. He tunes his coaching to match your level of experience, which makes it easy to follow. I’ve seen the improvement in my swing and strength every week!”

When my cousin first tried golf, he played like a total amateur before he met and trained under John Yu from My Gold Coach Singapore.
John has been a teaching pro for nearly 3 decades and is certified by the American Golf Teachers Federation and the National Registry of Coaches. He specialises in lessons for all skill levels, including juniors, families, and adults.
My cousin took the private 9-hole course lessons which enable students to test out their skills on real-game scenarios. Group lessons are also available, with prices ranging from $550 to $1,200 per person.
One drawback he mentioned, though, was that green fees aren’t included in the price (since lessons are conducted in-game), so be prepared for the extra cost. But if you’re looking for structured lessons with a dedicated coach, John Yu’s sessions are worth the cost.
Better swing styles
“Coach John is a professional and dedicated golf coach that catered to individual swing style strength and weakness. Coach John has an eye for detail, he is able to identify individual strength and weakness during lessons and focus on golfer fundamentals. Highly recommended!”
