Top 6 Baking Schools in Singapore for Your Upskilling Goals

Our team tried out the plethora of baking classes in Singapore. We rated each studio and school using the following criteria:

Range of lessons

We selected schools offering a diverse selection of baking lessons. We gave more points to studios that have focused classes for baking products (e.g. baking a cake or creating a croissant).

Teaching style

We limited our list to schools with instructors who were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable.

Years in the business

We picked studios and schools teaching baking classes for a minimum of five years. We wanted to learn from experienced instructors!

Value for money

We selected schools with reasonable rates. Additional points go to those offering regular promos for beginners and patrons!

Pros

  • Beginner-friendly lessons
  • Fun and knowledgeable baking instructor
  • Clean baking area
  • Small class size

Cons

  • Lesson fees are a bit high
  • Rigid class schedules
  • Closed on Mondays

Grà Baking Academy’s appeal is in its wide range of lessons that cater to all skill levels.

The school’s classes accommodate beginners, advanced learners, and those who want to learn to bake a particular product.

I’ve been looking to add bread-making to my long list of hobbies, so I enrolled in the straight-dough artisan bread class.

Thanks to the class, I now know how to make basic bread dough and dinner rolls. I think the lesson was ideal for beginners, as I didn’t have to use mixers or other equipment save for the oven.

Understanding the basics of bread-making was also enlightening. Having the skill made me confident to consider trying out advanced lessons in the future.

I was also impressed with how knowledgeable my instructor was. The class was only eight hours long, but he managed to teach the steps clearly, inserting fun bread facts as he went.

That said, I think the $230 fee for the lesson was a bit on the expensive side. Schedules were also fixed, so I had to restructure my plans to attend the course.

Regardless, the session was worth the expense and adjustments.

Pros

  • Competitive prices
  • Ideal for baking hobbyists
  • Cozy class area
  • Friendly instructor

Cons

  • Might not work for advanced learners
  • Class duration might be too short for some people

JusBaking is the ideal option if you’re unsure whether baking is for you or not.

That’s because the studio’s classes are short (around 3 hours), so you won’t be committing plenty of time. Also, the lesson rates are affordable.

We had our teammate Jen attend one of the classes to know if the quick course was beginner-friendly.

Though Jen has zero experience with baking, she emerged as a more confident beginner after taking the sweet bread class.

She said Justina, the instructor, handled the small class well with her clear instructions. The pro’s gentleness and patience with beginners made an impact as well.

Jen said that classes in JusBaking are perfect for hobbyists. However, the short sessions might not work for people who are looking to earn a certificate.

She also thought the 3.5-hour class might be too fast for a few people (she noticed one classmate barely keeping up).

Fortunately, learners were free to ask the instructor after the official lessons for any clarifications.

Pros

  • Unique baked products to learn
  • Quick yet productive lessons
  • Helpful instructor
  • Most lessons are open to kids

Cons

  • Not ideal for some beginners
  • Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Learners with some baking experience will find Nanatang’s product-centric classes exciting.

When our teammate Amy checked the classes, the lessons available included making French pastries, Korean-style bread, and Japanese wagashi.

She said enrolling was easy, as each class came complete with the specific baked product to learn, photos, and details of the session.

Her class lasted only three hours, which Amy said was favorable since it was short enough to squeeze into her schedule.

The class she attended had a maximum of eight students, too, so the instructor got to monitor each of the attendee’s progress.

She thought that people who already know the basics of baking will appreciate the lessons more, as the finished products were not the usual pastry items.

That said, beginners can still try their hands on Nanatang’s fancy baking lessons (the instructor was so nice).

Though, you may want to reconsider another studio if you want an in-depth understanding of the workings of baking.

Pros

  • Focused learning with small class size
  • Fully-equipped baking studio
  • Plenty of baked items to learn

Cons

  • A bit on the expensive side
  • Limited evening sessions

Serious learners who want to learn baking at a deeper level can benefit from ABC Cooking Studio’s programs.

The studio offers multiple lessons per course, ranging from eight to 24 lessons at each course level. Our teammate Kim who’s serious about upgrading her baking skills registered for the eight-lesson basic course.

Kim said learning in the studio was a pleasant experience thanks to the small class size (four people per session) which made it easier to concentrate on the lesson.

She also noticed that the two-hour duration was just enough time to learn a single baked item. The promise of learning more in the succeeding lessons was also thrilling.

The studio is open daily, too, which allowed her to book lessons without them getting in the way of her day job.

That said, she thought the biggest downside to enrolling here is that you need to finish all the course lessons to get a certificate. Busy people who can’t commit to a series of in-person classes might find the setup challenging.

Consider also that the studio’s evening classes were limited. Booking early can be a workaround, though.

Pros

  • Well-furnished baking studio
  • Numerous baked items lined up for the course
  • Friendly and skillful instructors

Cons

  • Course packages could use some flexibility
  • A bit pricey

“BELLS Baking Studio’s fees might be a bit pricey, but the class experience pretty much made up for the expense” was the summary of the opinions we got from past students from the studio’s Suntec branch.

One of BELLS’ students, Hannah, even pointed out that the studio’s modern interiors, high-tech equipment, and spacious work areas motivated her.

She said the place gave off a serious but at the same time pleasant baking class vibe.

She also loved the longer class hours, as she liked baking many items. Being able to choose between morning and evening lessons worked for her busy schedule as well.

The size of the class is a bit large, though. Students we interviewed said the usual number of attendees was eight to ten (which might appear crowded if you prefer a more focused teaching style).

A few also pointed out that the packaged courses were a bit rigid, combining bread making with tarts and cake making with cookies.

They said they would have loved it more if they had the option to focus on one baked item throughout the course.
