Pros
- Big serving portions
- Uses high-quality ingredients, particularly meat
Cons
- Orders may take more than 40 minutes
- Inattentive staff
OverEasy is most Singaporeans’ go-to for a delicious brunch, and we’ve figured out why. We ordered their famous The Hangover sandwich and California pancakes and were mind-blown by how massive the servings were.
Thankfully, we were a group of three, so we managed to gobble them up with no problem. The signature Wagyu patty in the sandwich was juicy and it also came with bacon and heritage ham, which were thick and had a subtle smokey flavour.
The California pancakes were served with maple syrup and honeycomb, which had been a delight to eat after a particularly savoury meal.
If we were to give a note for improvement, it’s that they should be mindful of their serving speed.
We weren’t, by any means, in a rush to eat, but our orders were served after 40 minutes. Not only that, but we had to call the attention of the staff to follow up our orders multiple times before we relented and approached one of them instead.

Pros
- Serves Brazilian-inspired food
- Incorporates unique flavour combinations into their dishes
Cons
- Can get noisy
- Pricey
If you’re looking to spice up your brunch, you should consider The Butcher’s Wife’s Brazilian-inspired meals. We tried croquetas and their Brazilian take on ceviche and were amazed at how both dishes were bursting with unique flavours.
The croquetas by themselves were pretty simple since they’re technically just a deep-fried savoury roll. However, when paired with their rich and creamy cashew-chili sauce, they were on a whole ‘nother level of delish.
The ceviche also took us by surprise. The punchy tartness of the fermented mandioca (cassava) juice was really the perfect dressing for the crunchy pickled winged beans and slightly bitter red onions.
We really had a fun time at The Butcher’s Wife and were willing to empty our pockets for their pricey but good food.
Fair warning though, it can get pretty loud in the restaurant after a while because some of their patrons can get tipsy from the alcoholic beverages that they also serve.

Pros
- Serves French-inspired gourmet foods and artisanal desserts
- Cosy and laid-back ambience
Cons
- Slow serving speed
- Pricey
A popular spot for brunch, Merci Marcel is known for their standard French breakfast of boulangerie (bread) and viennoiserie (sweet bread and pastries). But their savoury meals are also to look out for, especially their eggs Benedict and ratatouille.
The eggs Benedict were poached to perfection, and when we cut into them, the runny yolk blended with the creamy hollandaise sauce. Said combo also made the best dipping sauce for the thick and tender Bayonne ham that was served alongside it.
Their ratatouille, on the other hand, was also really tasty. The peppers and onions were soft and seasoned with a medley of herbs, spices, and the right amount of salt.
We’d like to note, however, that the portions are a bit small for their rather steep price. The Bayonne ham, in particular, can be finished in three big bites.
The servers also brought out our orders after 45 minutes, which we would have understood if the place had been busy while we dined. It wasn’t though, so we were slightly peeved (and ravenous) by the time our food was on our table.

Pros
- Uses fresh produce in their dishes, especially fruits and veggies
- Rustic and cosy interior
Cons
- Gets crowded
- Some of their dishes can be underseasoned
Symmetry’s food introduced us to a world of bold new flavours, which, as the staff said, were quintessentially Australian due to the fresh produce used in their dishes.
As newbies to this Australian resto, we asked the staff what they wanted us to try first and they recommended their Brussels sprouts and fig salad and Sunday steak and eggs.
The salad was undeniably fresh, and the Brussels sprouts were crunchy. Although the sprouts were a tad bitter, the sweetness of the fig managed to tone that down and created a perfect balance.
Meanwhile, we would have loved the steak more if it were seasoned more, but we didn’t mind that much since it came with a bunch of sides like sausage, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and roasted carrots that were individually packed with explosive flavours.
As for the resto’s interior, we feel like it’s the perfect balance of rustic and cosy, where friends can chit-chat for hours on end. It did get a bit crowded though since the staff didn’t seem to mind patrons lingering over after finishing their meals.

Pros
- Warm and cosy interior
- Rich and hearty food
- Generous serving size
Cons
- Limited brunch menu
- Pricey
Lola’s Cafe put a whole new meaning to “dining in comfort.” Not only was the food rich and hearty, but the interior was also made cosy by the strong scent of brewed coffee wafting all the way to our table.
Their food was equally aromatic as well, especially their shakshuka, which featured fresh roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and perfectly poached eggs doused in garlic oil.
Since Lola’s Cafe’s brunch menu only had a few items on it, we just opted for another savoury dish, bacon and mushroom truffle cream linguine.
The pasta wasn’t anything to write home about, but we liked that it was al-dente and the bacon on top of it was slightly crispy. The truffle cream didn’t taste much like truffle though, which was a shame because it was a bit pricey.
That said, we ended up leaving the cafe with our bellies full, and it’s all thanks to the generous portions that they served us.
