Even the other parts of a reno project are ticked; they have in-house teams for demolition, painting, electrical services, and metal/glass works. Timelines move more smoothly when everything is run through a central point.

We also like their realistic and practical style when advising on material selection or design. Charles, for one, is often given kudos for his non-pushy and cost-saving hacks.

Best of all, the clients we rang described results as “beautiful” without the schedule or budget getting dragged out.

Some appointments got cancelled at the eleventh hour, though, and follow-ups for such bailouts weren’t always the quickest.

Spots could also get taken fast. Lai Reno’s popularity among local homeowners should be accounted for.

Time is yet to wear out JM & Sons, whose history can be traced back to 1990.

A flexible portfolio backs that longevity up. This contractor handles both residential and commercial work, including HDB, BTO, retail outlets, landed homes, and offices.

You can phone their hacking team at any hour, too. While the office shuts down, they have in-house workers ready for mobilisation 24/7.

What’s even neater is that it’s polite masonry workers from Vietnam and Malaysia who’ll knock on your door. Many find their craftsmanship superb.

Certain areas, however, need refinement. For instance, they don’t always hit the mark on schedule, and a few clients had to chase them around for updates.

But getting swindled is unlikely. Detailed and competitive quotes seem to be the norm here, as interviewees suggest.

To top it off, they normally stay within a client’s budget.

Direct Tilling Team’s fair pricing is hard to turn down. In fact, some consider them as one of Singapore’s most affordable masonry contractors.

That doesn’t mean the outcomes are shoddy. “Exceeded my expectations” and “satisfied with the results” are what the majority of clients say.

And that praise applies to nearly every masonry-related service they offer. We’re talking about floor/wall tiling, overlaying (installation of new tiles over old ones), waterproofing, cement screeding, outdoor tiling, and speciality tiling.

If there’s a minor weak point, it’s Direct’s relatively short history. The company started in 2020, making it our newest entrant.

Round-the-clock support isn’t a feature yet either. Larger firms typically have phone reps operating beyond regular business hours.

Even so, messages, updates, and timelines often come through without delays. That’s what folks who’ve dealt with Max (Direct’s main guy) often rave about.

Me and wife engage him to hack, overlay tiles and whole house wall plastering and it took him and his team less than 2 weeks to complete and it was the holiday seasons! Max will go the extra miles to help you even though its not under his job scope like helping to remove window grilles, doors and all. You will never regret engaging him! Very honest and responsible guy! My electrician, plumber saw his plastering work and was very impressed so that says alot about his team’s work! Thanks Max and Team! Btw Max is the Manager!

The focus on identity, efficiency, and aesthetics is another upside. A good portion of their portfolio shows bespoke projects with a timeless and elegant look, all without sacrificing durability or workflow.

Responses tend to be timely as well despite the absence of a 24/7 helpline. Vincent proved that when he replied to our queries promptly, even sharing practical tips in the end.

It’s also pretty cool that 02 Interior tradesmen operate within an in-house workshop. One massive boon of that is how easily their interior carpenters and designers collaborate.

When it comes to hitches, you could say they’re not as well-rounded as most entries. Keep in mind that some picks can demolish, paint, waterproof, and install electrical wiring.

Those seeking a proven contractor should phone Hoong Fatt Heng Renovation (HFH). You see, they come with over 40 years of experience and a track record of 15,000-plus projects.

Plenty of brick-and-mortar work is in that mix, with hacking and tiling being the usuals. Craftstone, vinyl, mosaic, marble, ceramic, and granite surfaces all fall within their scope, too.

If we’re talking deadlines, they’re usually spot-on. “They stayed on track despite the tight schedule,” is what past clients told our team.

Project managers such as Alvin, Billy, Jacky, and Kayden also regularly earn high marks for being upfront about costs, deadlines, and potential issues.

Better yet, they’re speedy enough to sort out last-minute changes, adjusting quotations fast and transparently.

A bit of tidying post-work wouldn’t go amiss, though. HFH has received flak for workers leaving drinks and mess behind (something these cleaning services can help with!).

The crazy demand could also drive some clients away.
