I swear by trophy-studded shops, so opening with Mohan’s Custom Tailors felt right. Since offering their bespoke services in 1972, they’ve received accolades, such as TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence (2017 to 2018).

Suit quality gets them massive points, too. From my experience, the staff uses premium fabrics, mostly cashmere and linen imported from the UK and Italy.

What makes it sweeter is the fairness in rates. I got three bespoke fits here (including one for my girlfriend), each set priced well within Singapore’s standard rates, with discounts to boot.

I’m not a fan of the ‘handling multiple clients at once’ setup, though. It makes talking to the staff feel hectic, and it can extend the fitting time a bit longer than usual.

On the upside, Mohan has delivered my orders within 2 months of settling the bill. There are also ready-to-wear suits you can get between 24 hours and 7 days.

He originally made two blazers for me and these turned out to be excellent value given the quality (and number of compliments I’ve received for them). I love the customer service at Ehkay Corner Tailors! Pooja and Dinesh, in particular, improved my knowledge by patiently answering questions on which style or colour complements my body, skin tone, and the event I’m attending.

The online features simplified the process, too. I had a feel for their pricing and selection early on, which shortened the time I spent in the shop.

That said, reliability is what nudged them up the leaderboard. I received my orders in about 5 weeks, and some interviews even claimed theirs were delivered in just 3 weeks!

Pricing is competitive as well. Promotions, like S$75 cuts on 2-piece suits, have also been rolled out before, and you can opt for rentals if splurging is not on the cards.

My concern is they don’t offer store credits, so that ‘no return/no exchange’ policy hits harder if you change your mind.

Their women’s range isn’t exactly packed, either.

Came to Ehkay Corner Tailors for my first tailored suit. I went there with zero knowledge of wearing suits but Dinesh was very professional and accommodating. He explained the various styles of suits and how it can complement the wearer. I decided to go for an earth tone suit for my outdoor wedding and it turned out so well. Given my love for established shops, adding C.Y. Chow’s Fashion Tailors is almost inevitable. Being open since 1939 is a pretty good sign they’re not meh.

The staff often proves that. Jimmy, for instance, is a professional who never messed up my measurements, schedule, and patience.

I can also take my little brother and cousins here, thanks to their selection for children. However, their women’s selection and promos aren’t exactly bursting at the seams.

A saving grace is that they don’t follow a one-size-fits-all system. The Fashion Tailors crew can make men’s suits for almost any body size or shape.

Those on a tight budget can also go the rental route, with the selection featuring tuxedos, tailcoats, business suits, and a bunch of accessories.

It would’ve been nice if they threw in more modern suits, though. English-style fits are classics, but they can be ‘too formal’ for some occasions.

If you’re not fond of spending extra time on in-store measurements or phone consultations, Ron Master Tailors is a solid fit. Beyond quality work, they have a customisation tool wherein you can sort fabric or sizing details.

I give them bonus props for using imported fabrics, including luxury ones like mohair and gabardine. What’s more, the materials come in 5-plus shades.

You’re also looking at rates within Singapore’s averages. Eighty-dollar rentals (with accessories) and seasonal promotions are on the table as well.

On the flipside, a few clients (including me) have some gripes with their communication department. My emails weren’t answered, while others brought up instances where their calls went straight to voicemail.

They also primarily focus on men’s clothing.

Still, Ron Masters remains a top pick, especially if you value three decades of experience, weekend availability, and free deliveries for orders over S$99.

Range-wise, Made Suits is top-notch. Their pieces are best described as ‘traditional meets modern,’ as seen through sets that flaunt contemporary accents and classic Italian finishes.

Kevin Rocheno and Benjamin Kay also make sure the ladies don’t feel left out. They have the biggest and most unique women’s selection here, with colours, fabrics, and styles suited for almost every skin tone and body shape.

The prices generally aren’t daylight robberies either. Barring special editions and the premium range, most offerings start at just S$895.

Sadly, you can’t lower that with promotions, since deals aren’t really their thing.

They’re also the newest shop here. Sure, the 2016 opening of Made Suits isn’t that recent, but the other entries here have at least 30 years behind them.

Online consultations can be scheduled, though, which saves time.

And speaking of time, their 4- to 6-week turnaround isn’t bad.
