Chinese New Year’s celebrations in Singapore never disappoint, and this year is going to be even grander, starting with the much-anticipated Chingay Parade.
Deriving from the Hokkien word “chingay,” which refers to the art of costume and masquerade, the Chingay Parade promises an event full of glorious floats, thousands of performers donning vibrant costumes, lion dancers, dragon dancers, and more!
It’s a spectacle that’s full of colour and energy. Such an extravagant way to celebrate the New Year, indeed!
Chingay 2025 will be held on February 7 and 8, 2025 at the F1 Pit Building. It’s expected to run for 90 minutes, from 8 pm to 9:30 pm.
Admission to the parade isn’t free, however.
For children aged two years and below, entrance is free. PAssion card members also receive a 20% discount on tickets. Another way you can score a 20% discount is by buying four or more tickets together.
If you want to purchase a ticket, you can do so here.
What to Expect
From: momentos_sg
I’m so hyped for this year’s Chingay Parade because its theme is joy, specifically the joy we feel when we eat great food with loved ones. The parade will embody the concept of a food wonderland, so we can expect a ton of food-inspired floats, costumes, and art installations.
Since 2025 marks Singapore’s 60th birthday, the Chingay Parade will also participate in the SG60 celebrations. I’m eager to watch the 60 lion dancers perform onstage, and I’m almost sure they’ll roar like real lions, to show Singapore’s great spirit.
Aside from the lion dancers, there will also be 4,000 performers from 150 organisations for the Grand Spectacle. These performers have been planning and practising for a year in advance, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
And of course, it won’t be a grand festival without fireworks. Once the parade draws to a close, a flashy and magnificent fireworks show will go off, undoubtedly eliciting “oohs” and “aahs” from the crowd.
Important Notice for Attendees
If you want to attend the Chingay Parade, then you need to keep in mind that there will be road closures around the F1 Pit. This will take several hours leading up to the parade.
For that reason, I don’t recommend driving to the F1 Pit Building. Instead, I recommend riding the MRT; the nearest stations are Bayfront, Esplanade, City Hall, and Promenade. The destination is just a few minutes away on foot from these stations.
You can also get to the F1 Pit Building by riding a taxi. The drop-off point will be at Millenia Walk.
Also, I recommend you wear comfortable shoes, preferably closed-toe ones.
Last but not least, if you want to bring a bag, make sure it’s small and contains only the essentials. There will be a bag check when you enter, and having a small bag will ensure there are no issues.
